In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. My dear respected brothers, sisters and elders, we are in the month of Rajab and we have between now and Ramadan al-Kareem, one month and a few days. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to give us baraka in Rajab and Shaaban. May Allah give us Ramadan al-Kareem with good health, with time and with a deep dedication to attaining the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Because about Ramadan al-Kareem, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed. I have written the fasting for you as I have written for those before you, that you may become righteous. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you. What’s the purpose? So that you may become righteous. So that you may become people who live by the overarching, by the superior, by the completely overwhelming principle and criterion for every decision in their lives, which is, does it please Allah? The definition of the Muttaqi is the one who only concern is, does anything I say and do, does it please Allah? Because he is afraid of displeasing Allah. He’s not afraid of Allah. He’s afraid of displeasing Allah. He’s afraid of displeasing Allah because he or she loves Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala more than anyone or anything else. So what is this standard? We want to become Muttaqun, may Allah make us Muttaqun insha’Allah. But what is the standard, what are we aiming at? And to share that in my understanding with you, I decided to do today’s khutbah and insha’Allah the khutbah going all the way into Ramadan insha’Allah, on the standard of the Muttaqun which Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala described in the Quran, in detail and specifically in Surat al-Furqan and he called them Al-Ibadur Rahman. Who are the Muttaqun? They are the special slaves of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, jalla jalaluhu, Al-Ibadur Rahman. I remind myself and you that it doesn’t require an explanation to realize that the road that we are travelling on, whichever road it is, can only take us to the destination that it connects with. If we don’t want to go to that destination, we have to change the road. Not merely continue on the same road but make dua for a different destination. Doesn’t work. The dua has to come with a dawa. All reminders like this one and anything else that we get, we get it all the time. These are signposts along the road telling us where we are headed. And announcing exits if we want to change direction. Finally but however, there will come a time when we pass the last exit, after which there is no exit until we reach the destination that we chose. Remember that the one who ignored all exit signs cannot complain that he had no chance to get off the road. I ask Allah SWT to save us from ourselves. Let us introspect and change our ways so that we can take the right exit and go on the road that leads to the Rida of Allah SWT and Jannatul Firdaus. Insha’Allah. Allah SWT said in His blessed kitab, in His blessed kitab, Al-Kalam Al-Majid wa Al-Furqan Al-Hameed, Al-Quran Al-Kareem, in one of the most beautiful surahs, He mentioned these people, these special people who He honored by calling them His slaves, Al-Ibad Al-Rahman. And Allah SWT said, And when the ignorant people address them, And when the ignorant people address them, they say, Salam. And those who grow up prostrating and standing before their Lord, And those who say, Our Lord, turn away from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is a delusion. The people are prostrate and standing, And those who, when they spend, do not spend and do not spend, and there is a dispute between them. And those who argue with Allah about no one else, and do not kill the soul that Allah has forbidden except by truth, and do not commit adultery, and whoever does that will meet the punishment. The punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide in it in humiliation. Except those who repent and do good deeds, Allah will replace their evil deeds with good ones. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. All of them are with Allah SWT. And whoever repents and does good deeds, indeed, he will repent to Allah in repentance. And those who do not witness the visit, and when they pass by in ignorance, they pass by in honor. And those who, when they are reminded of the signs of their Lord, they do not run away against them deaf and blind. And those who say, Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and our offspring, a full house, and make us an Imam for the righteous. It is they who are rewarded with a room for what they have been patient with, and they will be greeted with greetings and peace. They will abide in it with a good habit, a stable place and a place of rest. Allah SWT has said which means, And the slaves of Ar-Rahman, the slaves of the most beneficent, are those who walk on the earth in humility and dignity. And when the foolish, the Jahilun, address them, when they talk to them, when they argue with them, when they curse them of bad words, they simply say salaam and they go away. They don’t engage with them. They don’t reply in kind, they don’t argue with them. وإذا قادبهم الجاهلون طالوا سلامة And they are those who spend the night before their Rabb in sajdah and qiyam. And they are those who say our Rabb a word from us, the torment of Jahannam. Verily, its torment is ever an inseparable permanent punishment. Evil indeed it is as an abode and as a place to dwell. And those who when they spend are neither extravagant nor stingy, but hold a medium way between those extremes. And they are those who invoke not any other ila, any other deity along with Allah, nor do they kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause. And this refers to a judge prescribing the capital punishment in a court of law after due process. It does not apply to anyone taking the law into their own hands and doing what they think they should be doing. And they do not kill such life as Allah has forbidden except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse. And whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled for him on the day of resurrection and he will abide therein in disgrace. Except those who repent and believe in Islam and do righteous deeds, for those Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will change their sins into good deeds. And Allah is the most forgiving, most merciful, where Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala include us all among them. And whosoever repents and does righteous deeds, then verily he repents towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala with true repentance. And those who do not witness falsehood and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity. And those who when they are reminded of the ayat of the Quran, of the signs of Allah, those who when they are reminded of the ayat of their Rabb, they are not deaf and blind to them. And those who say, our Rabb bestow on us from our spouses and our offspring, those who will be the comfort of our eyes and make us leaders for the Muttaqun. Those who will be rewarded with the highest place in Jannah because of their patience. Therein they shall be met with greetings and the word of peace and respect. And there they will abide therein forever. Excellent it is as an abode and as a place to dwell.
