In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
And peace and blessings be upon the honour of the Prophet and the messengers, Muhammad and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.
And peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.
My brothers and sisters, today I thought I will talk about some of the very common mistakes that I see here all the time.
These are small but they are very important. So it’s very important to get these things right.
So first of all, the way Adhan is called. Many of you call the Adhan, many of you like to call the Adhan.
Alhamdulillah, it’s good. But the way people call Adhan, except for one or two, it’s all wrong.
The most common mistake is that people call it Adhan.
The most common mistake that is made in the calling of Adhan is Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
Now, in the Arabic language, according to the grammar, if you are going to combine these two phrases,
Allahu Akbar is said twice. But if you combine the two phrases, at the end of the first phrase,
Allahu Akbar, there is a Dhamma.
There is a Pesh.
Allahu Akbaru.
And the next Allah has to be joined with that Dhamma.
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
Not Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
So please keep that in mind. Otherwise your Adhan is wrong.
So Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
Right?
Second thing is,
Allahu Akbar,
many of you pronounce it as Allah Akbar.
If you listen to it, it sounds Allah Akbar.
Doesn’t sound Allahu Akbar.
The who is very important.
Allahu Akbar.
The Akbar is connected with Allah.
Allah is the greatest.
Otherwise, Allah Akbar are two different, two separate words.
What’s the connection?
So, Allahu Akbar.
Right?
I’m deliberately not saying which nationalities do these things.
But you know.
And nothing to do with being Arab or not Arab.
This is the issue of Tajweed of the Arabic language.
So this is the first mistake which is made.
Second thing is,
The Ra.
Allahu Akbar.
Some of you when you call the Adhan and Iqamah,
you put a Shadda on the Ra.
A Tajdeed on the Ra.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar, right?
All of you.
Be careful.
Blessings to all of you.
So policing Allah and he bestows merciful mercy.
Then you go to learning.
So especially if you’re listening to this накka,
if you’re watching this listening to this it’s like watching a lecturラ at our alarm
radio,
has been there mostly for thatear gossiping.
I think,
see that?
Have only gotten to have –
it’s the most important động vivre.
How many people are listening?
If you want to make a DB,
if you want to practice,
because what’s the compare them to,
be happy,
whatever you want to may be.
So it’s almost that old-fashioned,
you learn,
look.
At this high place
that as long as you say a few times Allahu Akbar, a few times Ashadu wa la ilaha illallah,
this is enough. You can just say as many times as you like. So some people will say Allahu
Akbar twice, then they will say Ashadu wa la ilaha illallah twice, then they will say
something else. Please, there are two ways of calling the Ikham. First way is Allahu
Akbar four times. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, and then two,
two, two, two, two. Ashadu wa la ilaha illallah, Ashadu wa la ilaha illallah, Ashadu anna
Muhammadun Rasulullah, Ashadu anna Muhammadun Rasulullah, Hayala sala, Hayala sala, Hayala
alfa la, Hayala alfa la, Qad qaamati sala, Qad qaamati sala, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,
la ilaha illallah. So four times Allahu Akbar in the beginning, then everything two, la
ilaha illallah once. The second one is two times Allahu Akbar, everything else once,
appropriately.
Except Qad Qamatul Salah which is twice and the La Ilaha Illallah once.
So Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashadu wa la Ilaha Illallah, Ashadu anna Muhammadu Rasulullah,
Hayalul Salah, Hayalul Fala, Qad Qamatul Salah, Qad Qamatul Salah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illallah.
Right?
There is no third way of doing it.
So don’t just mix up a few times Allahu Akbar, a few times, no.
There is a proper way of doing the Qama.
Third thing is, Ashadu an la Ilaha Illallah.
I have heard people saying Ashadu anna la Ilaha Illallah.
There is no Ashadu anna la Ilaha Illallah.
Ashadu an la, and then the noon joins with the laam.
So Ashadu an la, it’s not Ashadu anna, Ashadu an la Ilaha Illallah, Ashadu an la.
That noon becomes silent, joins with the laam.
Ashadu an la.
Ashadu an la Ilaha Illallah.
Same way, Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
Now this is the issue of when the anna comes, the word after the anna has a fatah.
So Ashadu anna Muhammad, many people say Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
No.
Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
Not Rasulullah.
That’s another mistake.
Like it is Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
No, Rasulullah.
Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.
Alright?
So Adhan and Ikhama, very, very important.
Third thing is, people come and join in the Salah.
And I don’t know if they say Allah Akbar or not, but I don’t see it.
They just come, especially if the Imam is in Ruku, they will come, go straight into Ruku.
Or even if the Imam is not in Ruku.
Imam is in Qiyam.
Qiyam, they just come and stand there with a handful.
Now, please understand.
Allahu Akbar, saying Allahu Akbar at the beginning of the Salah is a pillar of the Salah.
It’s a Rukun of the Salah.
If you do not say Allahu Akbar, then your Salah is not valid.
You have not entered Salah.
Now, when you say Allahu Akbar to raise your hands up here, this is Sunnah.
Alhamdulillah, if you do it, that’s fine.
If you don’t do it also, it’s okay.
But you have to say Allahu Akbar.
When you raise your hands, just…
Just raise your hand.
Don’t touch the ears, earlobes, this, that.
No, just raise the hand, either at the shoulder level or at the ear level.
That’s it.
Right?
So, saying Allahu Akbar is very, very…
Don’t have to say loudly, but say.
Without that, your Salah is invalid.
You have not entered Salah at all.
So, make sure that you say Allahu Akbar.
Then, the Qiyam at the time of Takbir al-Haram or Takbir Tahrimah.
This also, if at all possible, is wajib.
So, stand and say Allahu Akbar.
Then, sit down.
Those people who need to sit down, no problem.
Alhamdulillah.
But stand and say Allahu Akbar.
The shart is, if you can stand.
The point is, if you came all the way from your home to the masjid, of course, you can stand.
Otherwise, how did you get here?
Right?
So, the question on can’t stand does not arise.
Because you can’t stand.
That’s how you are here.
So, stand and do Allahu Akbar and sit down.
No problem.
All right.
Sometimes, people think if I stand, I have to fold my hand.
Then, how can I sit down?
You don’t have to.
You sit down.
Then, you fold your hand.
No problem.
I’m not saying fold up.
No.
Stand and say Allahu Akbar.
Then, sit down.
But, it is very important.
The Qiyam at the time of Takbir al-Haram is also wajib.
So, therefore, we stand and do this.
All right.
Then, we come to the issue of Jumu’ah.
If I’m missing anything, please.
Please remind me.
Now, in Jumu’ah.
Jumu’ah is a Salah by itself.
Jumu’ah is a special Salah.
Jumu’ah is not Zuhur Salah.
Right?
Jumu’ah is Jumu’ah.
There are many differences between Jumu’ah and Zuhur.
Now, in Jumu’ah, first and foremost, try to come early.
Because Rasulullah said, Allah appoints two angels which stand at the gate of the Masjid.
And when you enter for Jumu’ah, your name is recorded in a register.
And this is.
Good for us.
Before Allah .
So, try to come early.
Come into the Masjid.
Pray two rakat, Tahiyyatul Masjid.
Tahiyyatul Masjid is wajib.
With some of the Aima, it is Fard.
But definitely, it is wajib.
So, praying two rakat, Tahiyyatul Masjid before you sit down.
First thing you do is very, very important.
So, pray two rakat, Tahiyyatul Masjid.
Then, if you have come so early that the Imam is not there, the Khateeb is still.
Khutbah is not started.
Alhamdulillah.
Good for you.
So, read Quran, make Zikr.
Because this whole time that you are waiting for the Salah is counted as Ibadah, as counted as Salah.
Right?
Second thing is, when you come, come as far forward as possible.
That does not mean step over people and do all that.
But where you can come decently without having anybody.
Come as far forward as possible.
And come and sit down where you are.
Don’t sit.
Don’t sit.
At the back.
Don’t sit on the side of the Masjid.
Leaning against the wall.
Sticking your legs out.
Right?
Even when you sit here in front of the Imam.
It is so terrible.
I mean, I’ve never seen this kind of lack of adab in any country in the world.
Allah has given me the opportunity to travel all over the world.
Never except America.
And believe me, it’s not the African Americans or the white Americans who are doing this.
It’s all of the people doing all this stuff.
It’s people who come from countries where if they did that, somebody will break their leg.
They will sit in front of the Mimbar, both the legs extended like this.
Suppose I’m giving the Khatia, right?
So I’m going to sit like this.
You like it?
My foot in your face.
You like my foot in your face?
Then why should I like your foot in my face?
Absolutely disgusting.
Right?
Now I can make that statement from the Mimbar.
Right?
You will get publicly insulted.
I don’t want to do that.
I mean, what kind of you do?
You come from what?
Your parents don’t teach you this stuff?
Really, I mean, you have to think about this.
I mean, even to say this thing, I feel ashamed.
Why should I be saying this to grown people, Muslims?
You come to the masjid, you sit in the Saab, and you are feeding the Muslims.
You sit in the Saab, and your feet are in the face of the Mimbar.
Inna lillahi wa inna ir-rajim.
The awe of this side is Qimla.
This is the direction of the Qimla.
To prove, put your feet in, towards the Qimla.
Is it Jais or not Jais?
Where you grew up?
Then how come, how did it become Jais here in this country?
Different Qimla, different Allah?
All these shelves are full of the Quran, full of the Mus’haf.
You put your feet towards the Quran.
Have some regard and respect for the Kitab of Allah, for the House of Allah,
for the Qimla, for the Imam, for the Khateem.
Please, come and sit.
Not against the wall, not sticking your feet out.
Sit respectfully, engage in dhikr.
And then when the khutbah starts, even if you are reading the Quran, close it.
Put it away or keep it with you.
And listen to the Khateem, listen to the Imam.
Intently, with attention.
All of this is part of the adab of Juma.
Once the khutbah starts, once the adhan is called, when the khutbah starts,
this is considered as time as if you are in Salah itself.
Which means that even if somebody says to you, Salam Alaikum,
you are not supposed to say, Walaikum Assalam.
It is farth for you to reply to Salam, except in this situation.
Just like if you are praying, you say, Allah, how about you have not stand,
you’re standing in Salah, somebody says Salam, will you say Walaikum?
No, you want to say?
Same way. Even Salam is, when even Salam is not permitted,
how is it permitted for you to come with your phone in your hand,
you are looking at God knows what, right?
And you are talking to all your friends,
and, ah man, how are you doing?
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Allah, Allah, Khutbah, Allah, Allah.
All of these actions destroy your Juma.
Think about it, you come all the way from home,
you take time out from your work, you come from your college and school,
very good, Mashallah, may Allah bless you.
Then you come here and you destroy the whole thing,
and you go back and you have nothing in your accord.
Is this good? Does it make sense?
When you come for Juma, you come for Juma,
your friend is there, doesn’t matter.
Don’t talk to your friend, don’t say Salam,
if he says Salam, don’t say Walaikum Assalam,
you come, you pray two rak’ah, tahtul maji,
it is between you and Allah.
Read Quran, make zikr, sit, listen to the Khutbah,
pray the Salah, after the Salah,
pray four rak’ah of Sunnah and two rak’ah of Sunnah,
that is six, and then go home,
or you go home and pray the Sunnah at home,
that’s up to you, but make sure that you do not
violate the adab of the Juma.
It’s extremely important, right?
When the Khutbah is going on,
even to do zikr is not permitted,
even to read Quran is not permitted.
Then how is it permitted for you to talk to your friends?
How is it permitted for you to, phones, please,
either leave it in the car, or turn it off,
put it in your pocket, or leave it at home.
Don’t bring it. If you bring it, this is shaitan, right?
This is a rectangular shaitan.
Don’t bring it, because if you bring it, it disturbs you.
Even if you are, even if the notifications,
everything is off, still there is psychological attachment
to this thing now, because we have got so used to it,
that automatically your eyes will go towards the phone.
Test it, try it and see, when you are at home,
or at work, at your desk, turn the phone off, right?
Turn the phone off.
Keep it there, and then notice the number of times
you will still look to the phone.
Every couple of minutes you look at the phone.
You know it is off, you turn it off.
Anxiety builds up, FOMO, fear of missing out, right?
Anxiety builds up, I don’t know what’s happening,
I don’t know which call I am getting.
Which call are you getting?
Right, so please, Jummah is too precious,
it is too important, too trash.
The Imam comes here, he goes to a lot of trouble
to prepare the khutbah, to try to say things to you
which are beneficial for you.
You think giving a khutbah every Friday is easy, huh?
Sheikh Umar was telling me, he told somebody in New York,
that man said, every Friday you give khutbah?
He said, yes.
He said, one lie, how is it possible?
I said, how is it possible?
It is possible because we take that much of trouble behind it.
It’s not easy.
One Jummah khutbah for half an hour, 30 minutes,
takes three days to prepare.
Not because I am dumb or Sheikh Abdullah is dumb.
That is the amount of time it takes if you are serious about it,
if you want to do a good job, if you want to do justice to it,
it is the Kitab of Allah, it is the Aqwal of Rasulullah .
That is the amount of time it takes.
So you have the Imam, he is taking all this time and trouble
to do something good for you and you want to come here
and you have no regard for this.
Ameen.
One very important thing which many people do not pay attention to
and that is the issue of the sutra.
Now, let me tell you, I have a very important thing.
Now, the sutra is something which you put in front of you
when you are praying by yourself.
And it can be, ideally it is something which is the height of a saddle.
So maybe about 10-15 centimeters, which means about maybe 6 inches high.
But if you don’t have anything, you can put even a ruler, a pen or whatever,
you know, anything.
In worst case scenario, you draw a line in the sand if you are praying in the sand.
But some indication that you are in prayer and that your sutra is the barrier
in case people want to cross in front of you,
then they can go on the other side of the sutra.
The sutra will be just above the place where you will make sajda.
So you should be able to make sajda before,
before you go to the prayer.
Before, without touching the sutra.
This is one.
Second thing is, the sutra should be to one side,
a little bit to the side of the left or the right,
so that it does not appear as if you are praying to the,
that you are making sajda to that sutra.
So if you put a chair or whatever in front of you,
put it to a little bit to the side,
so that it doesn’t look as if you are worshipping the chair.
Third thing is, the issue of crossing in front of somebody who isn’t salah.
Rasool Allah said, it is a major sin and he said,
wait without crossing even if it is for 40.
Now the Mahathir Sunnis have said that,
is it 40 seconds, 40 minutes, 40 hours, 40 weeks, 40 centuries, we don’t know.
But 40 meaning, it is even if you have to wait a long time,
wait a long time but don’t cross in somebody,
in front of somebody who is praying.
Now if the person has not praised the sutra,
still you are not permitted to cross in front of that person,
although the sin of not placing a sutra is on that person,
it is his responsibility, he should have done that,
but if he did not do that,
then that still doesn’t give you the permission to cross in front of the person.
Go around, go behind the person, InshaAllah.
When you are crossing, again the sutra is the space between
the person who is standing and his place of sajda.
So if a person is praying and he has not placed a sutra,
and if you have to cross say two safs ahead of him,
no problem, 10 feet ahead of him, no problem.
But say within 3 to 4 feet from the person
where he would normally make sajda,
don’t cross in that space.
For the person praying, Rasulullah said,
put out your hands, stop the person from crossing,
and if necessary fight the person because then that person is the shaitan.
So it is very important to understand this.
All the ulama have said,
and all the scholars have said,
then they are agreed upon,
that to cross in front of a person who is praying
is a very major sin and therefore this should not be done under any circumstances.
Final point,
when you are praying in Jama’at,
say you are praying in Jama’at behind the Imam
and you break your wudu,
and you need to leave and go and
freshen your wudu because without wudu your salah is invalid.
So if you break your wudu, your salah is broken.
Now what do you do because you are praying behind the Imam
and there are several safs of people,
people on your right and left,
and people behind you who are praying,
can you cross in front of them because there is no other way to go?
You have to cross in the saf itself,
which means that you are crossing in the space between the person and his place of sajda.
Can you do that? Yes, you can do that.
Because the sutra for the Jama’at,
is the sutra of the Imam.
What you cannot do and should not do is to cross in front of the Imam.
Obviously you won’t do that but I am just saying in case,
for example if you are praying outside in the open,
then this is a possibility.
So don’t cross in front of the Imam,
but in front of the people, the Muslims who are praying,
you can go through the, walk through the saf
and get out and then go and make your wudu
and then come back and join.
You don’t have to come back and join where you were standing obviously,
because the people would have closed that gap,
you should close that gap,
you come back and join at the end,
if the salah is still going on, otherwise you pray your own salah.
So these are some very important points as far as the sutra is concerned.
So please, did I miss anything?
That’s why I thought let me collect everything and tell you,
so that you know you can,
May Allah bless you, may Allah swt,
draw you close to Him, may Allah swt.
Nam Shaikh.
Yeah, this is another big fitna.
People think that Jummah means just the two rakat of salah.
So they come at last five minutes or ten minutes
and then they come and they just pray two rakat of salah and they go away
and even when they come they hang out in that vestibule,
which is, it is actually illegal to be there,
because it’s a fire hazard and so on.
Right? Please, come early, sit down,
show respect to the house of Allah,
show respect to the kitab of Allah,
show respect to the word of Allah,
and benefit yourself and give your all.
There is no fee.
You know when I speak at the interfaith functions and so on,
those people, the priest and so on, they are so surprised.
They are so surprised.
They say you get almost a thousand people every week
and you don’t even charge one dollar?
If you charge one dollar, that is one thousand dollars a week.
I say no, you don’t charge one dollar.
I say people don’t come here to give, they come here to take from Allah.
This is the house of Allah.
People come here to take, they take from Allah and go.
We don’t charge anybody anything.
So please, take advantage of this, inshaAllah.
We ask Allah to accept all your duas and accept all your abadahs
and to reward you and keep you with majesty and grace.
We ask Allah to help us to make our ibadah as beautiful as possible,
because this is worthy of His Shaan and His Izzah,
Jalla Jalaluhu.
And may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet and his family.
