4 Truths – #6

Auto-generated transcript:

Bismillāh ar-Raḥmān ar-Raḥīm, Alhamdulillāhi Rabbil ‘Alāmīn, wa salātu wa salāmu ‘alā ashrafil anbiyā’ wal mursalīn, Muḥammadur Rasūlullāh ﷺ, tasliman kāseran kāseran.

My brothers and sisters, we are looking at the four truths: the four truths that are true in life and which are important for us to keep in mind in order to be successful.

And the first of them is that time passes. Time does not wait for anybody; time passes. Whether you use it beneficially or you don’t use it, it doesn’t matter. Whether you waste it, time will pass. The second one is that liking is not important. Whether you like something or you don’t like something is unimportant. What is important is the thing itself. The third thing is, which we started yesterday, is that there are two ways of learning. One is by your own personal experience, so you make your own mistakes, you suffer, you pay.

And the other one is to learn from the lives of others.

There may be people around you, your own elders, your teachers; there may be people who passed away, where you read biographies and so on, but learn from others.

Before we continue with that today, somebody sent me an interview with somebody who I also know personally. And they asked him, they said, “What is your net worth?”

And the man gave some figure, a big figure.

So, I want to begin there.

If somebody asks you, think about this seriously yourself. If somebody asks you, “What is your net worth?” What will you say?

What will anybody say? You say, “What is your net worth?” What will you say?

Thousand crores, ten thousand crores, hundred crores?

But what is net worth?

For example, if you are going from, say, from here to America, or from here to some other place, very well.

And I come to you and you are in your house and I say to you, “What all do you have?” I have this, all these sofas and this carpets and all these clothes and what not.

So, what will go with you to America? How far away are you going? Twenty kilograms, right? Or two suitcases.

So, when you board that plane, what is the good of saying, “I have so many carpets and so many cupboards and so many sofas and so many dining tables?”

What is going with you is that suitcase. So, what is in that suitcase is your actual net worth. No?

So, with that in mind, if somebody asks this question, say, “What is your net worth?” What will you say? What will I say? Think about that.

Because it makes absolutely no sense. I mean, you know, it’s a total no-brainer. Something which you are going to leave behind, something which has zero value in the place where you are going. How is that an asset?

I’m using our modern language. So, if you understand. How is it an asset? Tell me, how is it an asset? How can you call something which has no value where you are going? And the going is certain. There is no doubt about the fact that we are going. This is something which you can believe in Allah. You don’t believe in Allah, do what you want. But you are not; nobody denies the fact that we have to go to, we have to leave this world.

So, where you are going, this thing which we have been spending all our life and time and energy and anxiety and we are worried about this and worried about that. What will happen tomorrow? Market will fall. Iran will do this. America will do this. Inna lillāhi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ).

Our non-renewable asset which is time. Instead of talking all this garbage, may Allah forgive me for saying this, concerning this war, that war, Trump will do this. Instead of all of that time, if you had simply said SubḥānAllāh, wal-ḥamdulillāh, walā ilāha illallāh, wallāhu akbar, walā ḥawla walā quwwata illa billah. That would have transferred into our account in a place where it would have. That would have been beneficial for us. Whereas this entire tafsīr, forget even the ākhirah, tell me what good does that do in this life here?

Seriously, I mean, even if you tell me, because of my talking one hour about all of this, one child who would have died didn’t die. Or one person who was hungry got one piece of bread. I am willing to take my pagdi, which I am not wearing right now and throw it at your feet. Please kick it. Kick it around like a football; I don’t care. Right?

Complete and total trashing of our non-renewable asset, which is time, for total zero—I mean, zero benefit; half the time we also earn evil in that. It’s not only zero benefit, because what we say can amount to ghibah and namimah and God knows what.

So really, I remind myself to do that and I request you to think: what really is this net worth? Stuff which we have, which we are absolutely going to leave behind.

Two days ago, Haiderwāi’s mother died, Fazilat Aunty, may Allah Ta’ālā give her janātul firdausil ‘alaih bi ghairi ḥisāb. Wonderful lady, did a lot of work. May Allah accept all her work. I went there three o’clock in the night, 3 a.m.; they had the janat. We went there. Believe me, I can watch for it. I was there at the khabar. The khabar didn’t have anything in it.

I didn’t see any gold or jewellery or any title deeds to buildings.

So all your, my net worth is this much, my net worth is that. Your net worth is what you take with you in your khabar. That is net worth. Nothing else is net worth.

Huh? Allāh Hafiz na?

May Allah save us from ourselves, first and foremost.

Not even shaitan, forget shaitan. May Allah save us from ourselves. Because our nafs, shaitan’s nafs is what did him. What did he mean? There was no shaitan to tempt shaitan. His nafs did it. This is what is happening to us. Think about this. The reason I am saying, very important for us to think is because we are living in an environment where we, this is being; we are conditioned with, we are being bombarded with this. Usku dekho ini itte hazar karol ka admi hai. Unne dekho itte. Inna li Allahi wa inna li Allahi wa.

To paise ki azmat, duniya ki azmat, ya badmashon ki azmat, hamare dilon mein, dhasa hi ja rahi. And we are also like fools, they accept all this.

We let people say what they want. Why do you accept it? We have no control over what the environment tells us, but you don’t have to accept it, no? Why do you accept it?

Seriously, we have to, we must ask ourselves, “What is my net worth?” I really, I say, sit down and define it. And say, “What is my net worth?” And the condition is, what will go with me in my khabar?

May Allah have mercy on us. If I simply ask this question, can you recite Surah Al-Fātiḥah? With the correct tajweed?

That is your net worth.

Can you lead two rakat of ṣalāh properly with the—I don’t care which madhab you are following, whichever madhab—can you lead two rakat of ṣalāh with the requirements of that?

That is the net worth.

Yesterday, somebody from Canada calls me; he tells me, he wants to take a house on, so I say, why are you asking me? You know what I am going to tell you. He said, no, I know, Sheikh, you are dead against—you know, interest and mortgage and so on, so on. I said, I am not dead against. Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā is dead against. Forget me, who am I?

He said, no, but you know, they came to our masjid, they did a khutbah in our masjid, and they said that the Islamic system is not valid anymore, because it doesn’t work. Can you believe this?

Hey?

Hari, you are standing in the masjid and you say, if you say with belief, that the Islamic system is not valid anymore, you have exited Islam, boss. You have become a murtad. What are you talking about? Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā has revealed, and you are telling me this is not valid?

Just because you want to sell some nonsense scheme of—

so,

Alhamdulillah, you know, they have īmān in their heart, so, I really, seriously.

He said, no, I only, I said, why did you call me? You know what I would say? He said, no, this is what they are saying. I said, let them say anything. Let anybody say anything. The kalam of Allah is the kalam of Allah. Khalas.

Anyone who is going to say something which goes against the kalam of Allah has left Islam, period.

It’s not my opinion. This is the ḥaq, net worth. What is the net worth? Seriously, ask yourself this question. And that is the reason why we said, learn from others, and the best of them, which Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā Himself, Jalla Jalaluhu, told us to learn, learn from, is Muḥammad Rasūlullāh ﷺ.

Allah said, the best example for you is the life of my Nabi, Alayhi Salatu Wasalam.

The whole life. Every aspect of that life. Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā did not say, look at this part of his life, about his ibādāt and so on, and, you know, domestic life, his home life, leave it. No, no, no. Every single fact of his life; this is the reason why Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā caused an entire generation to be born, and to be raised with him, and to grow with him, which recorded every single minute detail of his life.

It is unique. I mean, really, we have to sit and think, SubḥānAllāh,

the example of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and the example of the Sahaba, Rizwanullahi Alaihi Wasallam, is unique in the history of—of humankind. There is not another human being on the face of the planet, who ever existed, or who exists, or who will exist, which has this level of recording of detail of this life. Not one. Imam Tirmidhi Rahmatullah, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, Phyllis Qabaruddin, wrote an entire book on the Shamail of Rasūlullāh ﷺ, on the appearance of Rasūlullāh ﷺ. Shamail al-Muhammadiyah.

Utta material, that much of material; material is there, and more. Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā gave us, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā told us, this is his life, and Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā caused that to be recorded.

Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense, no. What’s the point of saying, that his life is the best example, but we have no record of that life? Then, what’s the point? So, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, when Allah says something, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā completes it. Allah does not leave anything halfway. So, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā said, his life is the best example, and Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā caused that life, to be preserved in every minute detail.

And then, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, to reiterate, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā said,

For those, who look forward to the meeting with Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, and who look forward to the Day of Judgment,

I always think about this, and I have said this a million times.

When you think about the Day of Judgment, what is the feeling in the heart? When you think about the meeting with Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, for the believer, for somebody who has any concept of Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, or the Day of Judgment, what is the feeling in the heart? Is it a feeling of saying, “Wow, fantastic, let’s go?” No.

The feeling is that of ḥaybah, of feeling of, “Ya Allah, what will happen to me?” “Ya Rabb, have mercy on me.” “Ya Rabb, forgive me.” Right?

The Day of Judgment, the whole Qur’an, the Juz ‘Amma, the 30th Parah, plus other places, Surah Al-Waqi’ah, and other places, Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, the descriptions of Day of Judgment, which Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā has given, are certainly not descriptions where somebody will say, “Oh, fantastic, I want to go.” No. Yet Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā is saying, “Yarju Liman,” for whom? “Liman, Liman Qana Yarju Allāh Wal Yawm al-Akhirah,” for those who look forward to. Now, who will look forward to this? Only somebody who has this belief that, Inshā’Allāh, whatever is happening will happen, but it will not touch me. Whatever is happening will happen, but I will be protected. Inshā’Allāh, may Allah count us and put us among them, Inshā’Allāh. Right? Who are those people? The one who followed the Sunnah, the one who followed the life of Muḥammad Rasūlullāh ﷺ; we have this Yaqeen, Inshā’Allāh, that Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā will protect us and will keep us in a place where whatever is happening will happen, but it will not affect us, it will not trouble us. We ask Allah for this for—ask for all our dependents and relatives and all elders of God and whoever has gone and for all the Muslims, Inshā’Allāh, that Allah keeps us all in the shade of His ‘Arsh on a day, “La Zillā Illa Zilluk.” Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he makes this du’a, “Allahumma Azillani Taht ‘Arshuk,” Wallah give me shade under your shade, under the shade of your ‘Arsh. “La Yawm al-Yawm, La Zillā Illa Zilluk.” On the day when there is no shade except your shade.

So there will be people who will be shaded under the throne of Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā. We ask Allah to make us among them, Inshā’Allāh. But for that, we have to follow the

Sunnah of Rasūlullāh ﷺ. I always remind myself and I tell everybody also that there is no unconditional promise in the Qur’an.

Everything in the Qur’an has a condition. Everything. No free lunch.

Everything. Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā, Allah will give. For one, Allah will give 10. For one, Allah will give 700. For one, Allah will give without his help. But Allah will not give anything if you give nothing. We have to do something. We have to clean up our act. We have to look and say, what am I collecting? What is my real net worth which will go with me in my grave? What is my ‘aqīdah? What are my ibādāt? Am I full? Fulfilling the farā’id that Allāh Subḥānahu Wa Ta’ālā made fard on me? Am I clear and am I conscious about the ḥalāl and ḥarām?

How I earn? Where I spend? What I eat? Huh?

These are the things. What about my akhlāq? What about my mamālat? What about my tongue? May Allah save us from our tongues.

These are the things too for us to think about. Because this will go with us.

Not all your thousands of crores and—you know—the palaces and buildings. I always say, especially people of Hyderabad, may Allah have mercy on us. We live in a city where the ibādāt is, literally, you have to be blind not to see it. If you have eyes and you are not seeing the ibādāt, the signs of ibādāt, people living in this city, may Allah have mercy on you. Something is seriously, seriously wrong with your brain.

Huh? Today with net worth, we had people here, who didn’t even know what they had. They had so much. Where are they?

May Allah forgive them. Where are they? Where do you think we are going?

So I remind myself and you, please let us correct ourselves. Today is Jumu’ah. Send lot of ṣalāt and salām on Rasūlullāh ﷺ. We ask Allāh ﷻ to help us to make this day, a day of barakah and khair and afi’a for us and a day of hidayat for us and a day from which we change our lives completely. We ask Allāh ﷻ to fill our lives, with the khair and barakah of Jumu’ah and to send ṣalāt and salām on Rasūlullāh ﷺ. We ask Allāh ﷻ to be pleased with us and never to be displeased. As-salamu alaykum.
