The fifth quality of Ibadur Rahman Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala z-zalib wa allatheena la yada’oon wa allahi ilaha nakhara wa la yaqutuloon an nafsa al-latihi harraba Allah illa bil haq wa la yaznoon wa main yafa’a z-zalika yalqa asama yuza’af lahul azaabu yawmal qiyabati wa yakhludh fiihi muhaana Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, And they are those who invoke not any God, not any Ilah along with Allah. They do not worship anyone other than Allah. They don’t worship anyone along with Allah, nor do they kill any life that Allah has forbidden to be killed. Except for just cause, meaning this refers to a judge handing down capital punishment in a court of law after due process. It does not apply to anyone else. Anyone else taking the decision to shoot somebody or to kill somebody in Islam, this is haram. It is murder and it is a capital crime. So Allah is saying, and those who do not invoke, they don’t worship anyone other than Allah. They don’t worship anyone along with Allah, nor do they kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor do they commit illegal sexual intercourse. And whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled for him on the day of resurrection and he will abide therein in disgrace. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala warned us against committing all forms of disobedience and sins. It is a very big mistake to consider sins to be minor, because any sin is a disobedience of Allah, who Allahu akbar. So to think that, oh this is a small thing, it’s not a small thing, everything is disobedience to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. If Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala decides to punish us, that small thing can become a big problem as far as we are concerned. Because the disobedience is not specific to the action, it is specific to who is being disobeyed. About the avoidance of sins, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, in tajtanibu kabahira ma tunhawnu anhu nukaffir ankum sayyiatikum wa nudkhilkum mudkhalan kareema. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, if you avoid the big sins, avoid the major sins which you are forbidden from, we shall forgive your small sins and admit you to our noble entrance which is jannah. But this is not a license to do all kinds of small things. It means that the Muslim will not do any, but somethings happen by mistake or you forget or something, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will forgive. Abu Hurairah radiya Allah anhu narrated in a hadith in Bukhari, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, avoid the seven great destructive sins. The people enquired, ya Rasulullah, what are those? Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, to join partners with Allah, to practice sorcery, magic and fortune telling and all that, to kill the life that Allah has forbidden except for a just cause as per law, to consume and deal in interest, to eat up the orphans wealth, to show one’s back to the enemy and fleeing from the battle feed at the time of fighting, and to accuse chaste women and always when he says women, also with men, to accuse chaste women who never even think of anything touching chastity and they are good believers. The sixth quality, those who repent and turn to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and become obedient, we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to make us among those who repent. Allah said, Allah said, accept those who repent and believe in Islam and do righteous deeds. For those Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will replace and change their sins with good deeds. And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is oft forgiving, most merciful. When this ayat was revealed, Sayyidina Muhammad went out and announced and said, I am the best of you. So people said, how can you make this claim? We are all trying to do some good things. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, when you repent, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala changes the bad deeds into good deeds. And he said, I was the most evil of you. So therefore now I have the most good deeds. But don’t do evil deeds with the hope of getting the reward. You have to always make the disclaimers. Allah be Allah’s mercy. And Allah said, whoever repents and does righteous deeds, then verily he repents towards Allah with true repentance. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to forgive us. Allahumma affil lana dhuruwana wakaffil lana siyiatina wa tawfran ma al-abrara. All praise and due is due to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, who opened for us the door of taubah. Just imagine what would we do if there was no way to seek forgiveness? If there was no way to seek forgiveness, what would we do if Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala punished us straight away on committing a sin? You know, in life it happens. You catch a… You hold a high tension wire, zap, finished. Instantly. Allah does not do that. You look at something haram, you don’t go blind. Right? You talk something haram, you don’t lose your capacity to speak. You walk towards some haram place, you don’t get a stroke. Right? Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gives time. What do you say about this? He is the one who created this world as a world of cause and effect. Right? We know this. This is a world of cause and effect. But see His mercy that in the case of sins, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala delays the effect to give the opportunity to repent. With good deeds, even think about it, Allah gives you an instantly, Allah gives a reward. Just thinking. Just think and say, I want to give ten dollars in charity. You got the award. You already got the reward. You give the ten dollars, Allah gives you ten into ten into seven hundred and so on and so on. But with evil, you think of an evil deed and you then change your mind. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has a good deed written in your account. Just in the mind. We don’t even know. Nobody even knows what happened in the mind. You thought of something, he said, no, I won’t do this. Kalaas, done. Not only is it forgiven, Allah gives a good deed as a reward of that. Yet we disobey Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We must understand sins have a consequence. Good deeds also have a consequence. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, Many times people ask this question. If there is a God, why is there suffering? There is suffering because of you. Suffering because of me. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala created this world. He sent us. He gave us the law. He told us what is right, what is wrong, what is harmful, what is not harmful. The fire burns and you put your hand in the fire and you say, if there is a God, why am I burning? You’re burning because you are stupid. You’re burning because you’re ignorant. You’re burning because you’re rebellious. You’re burning because you refuse to understand that the fire burns and you’ve been told a million times. What does God have to do with it? That’s what Allah is saying. Allah is saying, evil has appeared on the land and the sea because of what the hands of people have earned by their oppression and evil deeds. That Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done in order that they may return. Even in that there is a blessing. Allah allows them to taste a part. Believe me that what we are seeing is not full punishment. It’s only a taste. It’s a slap on the wrist. The slap hurts but it prevents the person from putting their hand in the fire. If the hand was allowed to go into the fire, it would hurt even more. So Allah is saying, no, before that turn around. Come towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. And Allah said, travel in the land and see what the end of those before you was. Most of them were people who joined partners with Allah. And brothers and sisters, we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, seriously think about this and say, what are the things that really occupy our thoughts and minds and things which we are anxious about? Keep a pad handy, keep a writing pad handy and then take notes. And that will tell you which way our life is going. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, jala jalaluh to be pleased with us and never to be displeased. We ask Allah to enable us to practice what we say and hear. And we ask Allah to make us among His Ibadah ar-Rahman. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to give us Ramadan al-Karim in good condition, in good health. And with the free time to use it to the best of our ability and knowledge. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to help all our brothers and sisters wherever they are. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to especially help the people of Gaza. We’ve been making dua over and over and over again. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to accept our dua even though we know that the reason our dua doesn’t get accepted is because of us. Because we refuse to change our lives. But we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, ya Allah there is somebody somewhere who is making this dua who is a good person. I accept the dua for that person. And I remind you and myself, please, if you are earning haram, your dua will not be accepted. If you are eating haram, your dua will not be accepted. It doesn’t matter how much charity you give, you can’t throw money at God and he won’t go away. Don’t fool yourself. Don’t say, I’m giving charity. Give it or don’t give it. That charity with Allah is not acceptable. Zakat on haram money is not acceptable. Change your ways. That is why the dua doesn’t rise above the head. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to help us to change our ways and to earn halal, eat halal and to follow what Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ordered us to follow in the way of the beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
