By time

My brothers and sisters, if there is one thing that Allah has emphasized in the Quran over and over and over again, including taking an oath by that thing and that thing is time. Allah took an oath by time. He said, Allah took an oath by time. And Allah mentioned time in the Quran, many, many places. And Allah mentioned activities that we do which are which translates into useless activities, pointless activities, just play and games. Now think about this. Why is this huge emphasis on time? The whole issue about the Akhira. What is the one big difference between the Dunya wa Al-Akhira? Dunya is temporary, Akhira is permanent. Means what? Time. Dunya is for a short time, Akhira is for a long time. Time. My question I ask myself when you is, what do we do with our time? If I ask any of you here and you don’t have to answer me, it’s for yourself. Can you tell me from the time you woke up today till now, what did you do the whole day? If I make a table, which I do when I teach the time management class and the Live World class, we actually make a table every half hour. On the time you wake up in the morning, say 4 o’clock, 4.30, 5, 5.30, 6, 6.30, 7, 7.30, 8, all the way down to when you go to sleep. And say every half hour what were you doing, right? Today, I’m not talking about 10 years ago, today, what did we do? How many of us can fill that table? And if you cannot fill that table, I’m not saying you’re doing anything halal, right? But you don’t know what you were doing. You forgot. So it was something which was so, you know, routine, maybe thoughtless, maybe pointless, I just went and the time passed and finished. Now this is a loss, huge loss. Because time, out of all the things that Allah has given us, time is the only thing which is non-renewable, which is irrecoverable. Once it is gone, it is gone, finished, khalas. Whether it went in a good thing or a bad thing, it is not important, it is gone. Everything else you can get back to some extent. Wealth you can get back, you can get back all that you lost, you can get back 100 times more, 1000 times more, billion times more. There are many, any number of stories of people who were wealthy and they went to become beggars and they became super wealthy and so on. So we know this. Even health, Allah cures us, but health is you lose your health. Then Allah cures you, you get it back, right? Jihad sent me a video of this guy who is in his, who is 75 or 78 and he is deadlifting 300 kilograms. So, health you will get back. What you will not get back is time. Is time. Now where is the maximum, I call these time killers, where is the maximum amount of time that we spend which goes wasted? Two things. One is useless conversation. Two is arguments, discussions, useless, pointless conversation. Which includes social media of course, right? I did a calculation, I used 25 dollars an hour as a wage. And I did a calculation that if you spend two hours a day in any activity, that’s 50 hours, 50 you know dollars, right? Two hours a day is 50 dollars. In a lifespan of 50 years, that amounts to 950,000 dollars. Close to a million dollars. Just two hours a day. 950,000, close to a million dollars. Think about how many things we spend two hours a day. If you make today’s time table, I can guarantee you there is probably not one person in this room who knows what happened to two hours. I know because I structure my day, every single day I can tell you for every five minutes what I do. That’s very, I do it because I do it consciously. But I can guarantee you, two hours have gone somewhere in your life you don’t know. That two hours is gone, that two hours is worth 50 bucks, multiplied by 50 years, 950 dollars, one million bucks. So where do we spend our time? Useless conversations. So I have a solution for this. My solution is three things. Three questions you have to ask. The moment anybody starts a topic of a conversation, suppose somebody says, what do you think about Donald Trump as the president? Or somebody says, what do you think is happening in, what is going to happen in Gaza? Somebody says, what do you think is happening in Pakistan with Imran Khan? Anything like this, right? This is what we talk about, right? So anyone starts a conversation, hold on a second, hold on a second. Let’s tell you something. First of all, two questions. One is, what is the objective of this conversation? What are we going to achieve at the end of this? What is the measurable result that we are looking for at the end of this conversation? So please tell me clearly, right? This is what’s going to happen. Okay, fantastic. Number two, how long will this conversation last? Is it from now until we die or what is the situation? Is it for one hour, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, two hours? What is the time duration? So what is the purpose of the conversation? Number one. Number two, or discussion about it. Number two, how long is it going to last? What is the time period? If they cannot tell you, walk away. Allah give you two legs. Walk away. If they give you, okay fine, very good, sit there. How’s the conversation? Two hours over, put a timer. Two hours, put your timer on. Two hours, okay. The timer goes off, good. Conversation stop. Whatever middle of sentence, start, stop. Okay now, third question. What did we achieve? We started off by saying this is what the conversation is for. Did it happen? What is our achievement for spending this one hour or two hours? Believe me, if you do this, one of two things will happen. Either people will have positive, useful conversations which they can actually show some result, which is a good thing. Or they will not involve you with the conversation. The moment you are there, they will say, please go away. No, prahambu ilaah. You are a winner both ways. Your time is not wasted unnecessarily. And if you have a conversation, it’s a positive conversation doing something useful. Right? Please, I remind myself and you, don’t waste your time. Do not waste your time. And time will be wasted unless you consciously track your time every minute of your life. Time will be wasted, take it from me in writing. We have no choice because time passes. Somebody says, oh I’m passing time. No, not passing time. Time is passing you. We say, what are you doing? You are gossiping. You are passing time. Time passes automatically. Why are you passing time? Please, let us stop all of this. It’s completely useless activity which has zero… And on top of that, a lot of that becomes even sin because we are talking, we are doing reva, we are doing namimaa, we are doing slander and god knows what. All kinds of lies. Please, do not indulge in useless conversation. And apply this to every activity. I’m going to watch a football match. Why? What’s the purpose? I’m going to spend one hour there in front of the television watching this soccer match. What is the result I’m expecting? Seriously, I’m telling you, this is your life. You want to waste it, be my guest. Go ahead. If you are going to watch a match, ask yourself what is my takeaway from, what am I going to get by watching this match for one hour? What is my takeaway? If you have a takeaway, please watch. No problem. But if you have no takeaway, ask yourself, this one hour is not coming back. This one hour is not coming back. And one hour a day for 50 years, how much? Half a million because two hours is one million. Apply this to every activity in your life. Right? Because Allah has given us a life to live responsibly, not to waste. It doesn’t matter how old you are, if you are 70, 80, 90, 120, who cares? If there is breath, it must be done and it must be done objectively, clearly for a purpose with an objective in mind. So I remind myself when you, please don’t waste your time. It is very precious. That’s why Allah has given us to emphasize and emphasize and emphasize. Please, do not waste your time. Do not waste your time. Structure your time and live thoughtfully and powerfully. A day will come, SubhanAllah, inshaAllah, a day will come when you will remember me saying this. I will be dead and gone long back. If you remember, big tabla for me at that time. Seriously, do not waste your time.
