So almost everything you hear, whether it’s on television, whether it’s on social media, whether it’s on newspaper, is all negative. It’s all negative. So many people died, this happened, that happened, demolished, war, this not. So our whole mind, the mind and the body gets affected, heart and mind gets affected by what we see. That’s the reason why it is so important to make sure that you see the right things. And I have a principle that I try to follow, which is that I don’t look at anything that I cannot control. So for example, I don’t watch any of the Palestine videos and stuff because what is good about watching a child being killed, tell me? What is good about seeing a building being demolished and mothers crying their guts out because their children are blind in front of their eyes? What’s the good of that? I can’t control it, I can’t stop it. I would gladly do anything to stop it, but it’s not my control. So by looking at it again and again and again and again, all that it does is it drags me down. What I can do is to make dua to Allah SWT, which I do constantly, Alhamdulillah. What I can do is, you know, if there is any relief things going on or whatnot, I can donate to that, which I try to do to the best of my ability. But other than that, I don’t watch all this stuff. And that’s why I tell people don’t even have a TV in the house. We don’t have. We haven’t had a TV in our house for the last 35 years. We are probably the only house in America which has no TV. No TV? We never had. The past 35 years. Alhamdulillah. You don’t miss anything because there’s nothing great about consuming content which is created by somebody else for their reasons. And you are, all you can do is consume. In front of the TV, you have no control. You’re just consuming that content and it’s damaging your life, it’s damaging your heart, damaging your mind and nothing you can do about it. So throw out the televisions. They’d make a record or a video smashing the television and then post it on YouTube. You probably get some money for it. Only bad news. The reason I’m saying this is because what then happens is, a friend of mine tells me, I’m working for this company but I won’t know what will happen in the future. I said, of course, nobody knows. He said, no, no, no, but you see, one man in this company was sacked just overnight even though he had been working there for 25 years, just like that. So I don’t know what will happen to me. So I asked him, I said, how many employees does the company have? He says, 5,000. I said, how many got sacked? One. Now you want to look at that one person who got sacked or you want to look at the 4,999 people who did not get sacked and where do you link yourself? What can happen to me? What is the likelihood? Law of averages says that what happens to the most is more likely to happen, right? So what’s likely to happen to you? Nothing. You will be happy. Like, 409. One man got sacked. We don’t even know why he got sacked. God knows what happened there, right? Allah knows best. But the tendency, the mental tendency, it drags you to the negative. So I remind myself when you don’t get into this spin, Allah said, I am for you what you expect me to be. Expect the best from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. My chef used to say, in this country you don’t see that because there are not enough poor people I suppose. At least not where we live. But in my country we have on Eid days and so on, so on we have tam am. So you cook a lot of food, usually it’s biryani, so you cook biryani and then there is Sufarah Dastakhan and anybody can come and sit and eat. Anybody, from the street, anywhere. People know that this is happening here, they come from all over the place. Hundreds of people, they come and they sit and eat. Now my chef used to say, supposing if I am doing this in my house, I am having this, I am daawat. So there are big Dastarkhans and food is there and people from all the villages, everybody is coming and they are sitting and they are eating. And he used to say, supposing I, he said if you come and you also go and sit on there. And as you sit down there and the servers, they are dishing out the food. But as the server comes close to you, your friend who owns this thing, who is giving this tam, he sees you. So what will he do? He will come, he will catch you by your hand, he will pull you up from the place where you are sitting and he will take you away. Right? Now if that happens, what is the thought in your mind? If you are thinking, if that happens and you are thinking that my friend has deprived me of my food, I am going to be hungry today, my friend has taken away, then you are not a friend. Then you are insulting that person, you are insulting your friend. Why did he lift you up from there? Because he says you are my friend, you don’t eat with all these people, you come here, you and I will eat together. We will eat at the khas suphra, khas dastarkhan, khas table meant only for the close family and friends of the owner. And we will also probably have better quality food than what is happening here. You know more things and God knows what. Right? So when you are lifted up from this, what do you observe? You observe that there is one zariya, one place of rizq which has been closed for you. Lifted up. Our usual tendency is what? Despair. Ah, what will I do? How will I feed my family? How will I eat? But the one who knows his friend, what will he say? He will say alhamdulillah. He will say alhamdulillah. My friend recognized me. What? My friend recognized me. Alhamdulillah. Exceptions are made. Exceptions are made. So I remind myself in you, the key thing is to keep this connection with Allah subhanahu ta’ala alive. Allah has no friends as in there is no masawat between Allah, between the Rabb and the abd. But about the awliya of Allah. Allah said la khawfun alayhim wa la hum yahdunoon. And who are these awliya? Walladhin aamanu wa kaanuyyabtaqu. Allah said they are the people who have iman and who have taqwa. And if you have iman and taqwa, we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for iman and taqwa. And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in His great mercy did not specify a certain amount. Allah did not say so much iman. Iman equal to the iman of Hassan Basri. Iman equal to the iman of Ahmad bin Humbert. Iman equal to the iman of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. No, Allah did not say this. Iman and taqwa. How much iman? As long as we are not committing shirk and kufr inshaAllah, that’s the boundary line. And taqwa as much as possible. To whatever extent is possible. For those people Allah said la khawfun alayhim wa la hum yahdunoon. For them there is no khawf and no khuzak. No fear and no sadness. Fear is about the future. What will happen tomorrow? And sadness is about the past. Oh, what did I do? Why is that not there for the Muttakul? Because a Muttaki is one who does his best to stay on the right path. So for the future he is not worried because he is trying his best to do the right thing. And for the past a Muttaki is the one who immediately makes taqwa and istighfar. As soon as something happens, immediately he turns towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, ruju ila Allah. He asks Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for his forgiveness and Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala promises to forgive. Alhamdulillah. So when a person has, tries his best to do his best and he immediately makes istighfar for whatever mistakes he makes, inshaAllah this person is among the Muttakul. And we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to make us among the Muttakul. For them there is no fear, there is no sadness. And therefore always have the best opinion. Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, have the best opinion about Allah. Think the best about Allah. Don’t ever think what will happen to me, I will get destroyed, this will happen, nothing. Even like I told you yesterday, even if everything is going wrong, for you it will not go wrong. Allah will save you. Allah will remove you from the difficulty. Because Allah mentioned this, umayyat taqillaha yajallahu makharaj. Allah did not say they will not have difficulty. Allah said I will remove it. I will take them out of the difficulty. And I will provide for them from sources they cannot imagine. The one who has taqqur on Allah, Allah will become sufficient for him. See the beautiful bayan of the Quran. Allah did not say Allah will give him whatever he needs. No, Allah said Allah will become sufficient for him. Allah will give him what he needs, Allah will give him what he desires, Allah will fulfill his hajjah, Allah will fulfill his khwaisiyat, everybody, everything. We ask Allah to enable us to work, we ask Allah to enable us to work to reach his ridah. We ask Allah to be pleased with us, we ask Allah to forgive us, we ask Allah always to keep our spirits positive and we ask Allah to give us in keeping with his majesty and grace and to forgive us as he forgives those who transgress against him. We ask Allah SWT not to keep us among those who transgress against him. We ask Allah SWT to help us in ways that we cannot imagine, from places we cannot imagine.
