As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen. Wa salatu wa salamu ala ash-sharafi al-anbiya wal-mursaleen. Muhammadur Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam. Tasliman kathiran kathira. Firmabado. [PAUSE] My brothers and sisters, alhamdulillah. We are here in Madinah Munawwara. And tomorrow we go to Makkah Mukarrama or Umrah, inshallah. And since this is Ramadan, we know the hadith of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh. He said, anyone who makes Umrah in the month of Ramadan, Allah will give him reward equal to making Hajj with me. Just think about that. Somebody who makes Umrah in the month of Ramadan gets the same reward as the people who made Hajj with Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh. [PAUSE] So the first and foremost thing to do is to be conscious of this and thank Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh. Because it’s only by the tawfiq of Allah, that we are here. We are not here because we are pious. We are not here because we are so good. We should understand one thing very clearly, one thing very important, which is the reward of Umrah and the reward of Hajj, inshallah, is purification from sin. Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh will forgive all sins. Now, therefore, if anybody who comes, and feels very pious about it, must ask himself a simple question. What kind of clothes do you send to the wash, to the laundry? Clean clothes or dirty clothes? Dirty. So this is a laundry for sins. So if you are coming to the laundry, what kind of person are you? Dirty. It is the mercy of Allah. That Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh could have left you dirty. He didn’t leave you dirty, He brought you to the laundry. La ilaha illa Allah. So you clean yourself. Alhamdulillah. So the first and foremost thing to do is to thank Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh. Alhamdulillah, Ya Rabb. Because of Your mercy, only and only. There is no other factor. It is not our piety. It is not our ability. It is not our race. It is not our language. It is not our color. It is not nothing, nothing, nothing. It is only the mercy of Allah that Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh brought us here. And inshallah, we ask Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh to do this. We ask Allah sallallahu alayhi wa barakatuh to take us in safety and to make the Umrah easy for us and to accept it from us and to wash our sins and to keep us and take us out pure as we were on the day in which we were born. So inshallah, this is the attitude with which we should go for the Umrah. Second thing is also, therefore consider the Umrah to be a reboot of our lives. So, whatever I used to do till today, inshallah, we make the niyyah to say that, from tomorrow, meaning, from now on, not even tomorrow, I will change and make my life, which is my tongue, and my actions, obedient to Allah swt only. so very consciously never say anything or never do anything that has any chance of being disliked by Allah so there are only three options when you are choosing to speak something or choosing to do something there are only three options one is yes I know this pleases Allah for example if I want to say something good I want to narrate a hadith I want to narrate I talk about an ayah I want to say something good to somebody I want to praise somebody I want to support somebody in anything good and so on so on so I know Alhamdulillah this pleases Allah therefore we do it second thing I am about to I am thinking I am going to say something critical about someone who is not here that is backbiting I am going to say something which can be slander about somebody I don’t know for sure I am saying it it is slander this is a ! comes before the action and he said one of those things is envy jealousy because when a person is envious what is he doing he is his heart is breaking right he is burning from inside when he sees you having something good so his punishment starts even before before the action his punishment is already started because he is burning because he sees something good in you so he said don’t do this rejoice in the good that you see in your brother and then what happens when you do that Allah will give you the same he said the good will come knocking on your door genuinely rejoice Alhamdulillah my brother has got such a beautiful car my brother mashallah he is a pious person my brother has such a beautiful family whatever right so anything good rejoice genuinely rejoice in that but if you are jealous the punishment actually comes before the action so we make this near to say I will not do anything which displeases Allah SWT so second thing is third thing which is that there may be something where I am not sure so when I know it is good I do it when I know it is not good I don’t do it when I am not sure right for example one of the most common ones is you go and there is some food where you are not sure is it halal or not halal right I mean I saw your father the other day he is asking the guy is the chicken hand slaughtered or machine slaughtered it is very important very important to ask this question because if it is machine slaughtered it is halal but people say say Bismillah and eat so I asked one of my friends one day I said supposing somebody gives me a bottle of whiskey can I say Bismillah and drink equal it is halal so saying Bismillah makes halal into halal what is halal is halal you can say Bismillah you can read the whole Quran and it is still halal what is what is the Bismillah so make sure so now when you are not sure what do you do supposing for example you ask the question is this machine slaughtered or hand slaughtered he says sir I don’t know what must you do say Bismillah and eat no I am not sure I will not touch it until I am sure I will find out if I am sure then I am sure no problem so when you are sure you have one of the two things yes it can be done can’t be done accordingly but never touch anything which is doubtful so make let us make this umrah a reboot of our lives right now let us make this umrah a reboot of our lives right now let us make this umrah now umrah is something which it is the part of hajj that is done in the haram in the haram sharif other parts of hajj mina muzdalifah arafat and so on are run outside part of hajj which is done in the haram sharif is the umrah which is taaf and say the umrah is also a a reliving a remembering of a family which Allah showed as an example for all of humankind on the basis of their complete and total obedience to Allah the family of Ibrahim Ibrahim and Ismail these three were the epitomes of obedience to Allah about Ibrahim Allah said he said to him submit he said I have submitted he didn’t say no let me think about it let me consider it I’m not sure does it make sense I’ll tell you tomorrow morning no Allah said submit he said I have submitted now this is the quality of submission which is the requirement of a person being that’s why Allah said la tamutunna illa wa antum muslimun do not submit do not die until and unless you are in a state of submission die only and in the state of submission die only as a Muslim how do you make sure you die as a Muslim by living as a Muslim you cannot live you know a life of disobedience and then somehow someday when you are dying you will die in sujood somewhere how will you die that jump and happen right the way to die to ensure that I die as a Muslim in a state of submission is to make sure that I live as a Muslim in a state of submission if I am living as a Muslim in a state of submission inshallah Allah SWT will take care right so therefore this action when we make ta’af do it with this awareness that I am here I am going around the house of Allah SWT which Ibrahim AS built the first masjid on the face of the planet right he built it and the what we are seeing there is what Rasulullah SAW himself took part in the building of that the putting of the Hajar Aswath and so on was by the blessed hands of the Prophet SAW and then the Tawaf itself is something which the Prophet SAW said show us he didn’t say tell us he said show us how Allah showed in his way will Allah so the it’s part of the of the arcana of Hajj so the Tawaf is something which Allah has ordered to do and do it with this awareness that this is the only abadah which can be done in this place nothing else right everything else can be done anywhere but Tawaf is only around the Kaaba you can’t decide I’m going to do Tawaf in in Florida you know make my little walks like this and painted black and walk around it no it doesn’t work like that it is only here then remember also two or three beautiful Ahadis one is where Navishwarasana said the first time you look at the Kaaba whatever Dua you make Allah will accept so when we enter the Masjid tomorrow InshaAllah look down and as you go there once you are the Kaaba is you know in that area then look up look at the Kaaba and make Dua and InshaAllah Allah Ta’ala will accept the Dua now Hanifa Rahmatullah Ali when he did this when he came to the thing and he looked up he said O Allah whatever Dua I make after this please accept it yeah this is the this is the ah so Allah will accept the Dua so make this so InshaAllah we do this the other thing is the Ahadis of the Prophet also he said the one who sees the Kaaba with his own eyes Allah will make Jahannam Haram on him ah imagine how many times Allah gave us the opportunity so many times only Allah can do this like my brother always says only Allah can be so generous Wallahi right seeing once is enough InshaAllah but Allah says no do see many many times so InshaAllah we make ourselves again having said that it doesn’t mean that you go and do Kufr and Shirk no keep your life clean InshaAllah Allah Ta’ala will give us Jannah we ask Allah for Jannah so this is somebody who sees the Kaaba Allah will make will give him give him InshaAllah Jannah makes the Jannah Haram on this person so when we are making Ta’af do this with this awareness that I am doing an action which was done by all the Ambiya from Ibrahim all the way down all the Ambiya they made Ta’af of the Kaaba Rasool Allah himself came and made Ta’af of the Kaaba that this is the holy place where we were walking these people the Ambiya of Allah they walked to this place right Maqam Ibrahim was where Ibrahim used to there was a stone which was there he would stand on the stone and he would build the walls and so on so that is there but of course we don’t pray Turakat there we make these seven circles and then we pray Turakat of Salah and then we make Sai now Sai is the commemoration of the effort that our mother Hajar made when she was left in that valley of Bakka with her infant baby little baby now this is the imagine Ibrahim gets he is in Jerusalem in Palestine he gets Allah tells him take this your wife and child and leave them in this place now imagine he is he doesn’t know where is his Bakka he doesn’t know there is no sign post right he is not catching a flight from there he is he is walking right obviously he would have some riding animal or whatever other than that he is walking from Jerusalem to this place who guides him there is no road right he doesn’t have a map how does he know how to how does he know to how does he know that he has to go to this particular place there is no guide map there is no road there is no you know Allah is Allah is showing him Allah is showing him Allah is guiding him turn right turn left whatever the case might be so he comes there he leaves them there and he turns around and goes back he does not even tell her why he is leaving her there what he must do and it is not because Nauzbillah there are people who makes stupid kind of remarks you know what kind of father is this he came and abandoned his family no Nauzbillah never even think like this right this is all the Hukum Allah SWT gave him this Hukum leave them there turn around go back right so he turns around and goes back now see Hazar she says where are you going he doesn’t say anything then she says is this something your Rab has ordered you to do he just nods his head he says then go imagine imagine her Iman what kind of faith she has what kind of Tawakor Allah SWT she says go ! our Rab will not allow us to perish if Allah has ordered this he will not allow us to perish go and then when he goes over the hill where Allah SWT says where they could not see him and he made this beautiful Dua asking Allah SWT for and imagine the kind of Dua first thing he says O Allah make them people who will I am leaving them there so that Li Yuqimu Salah I am leaving them so that they will establish Salah I always say this just think about this if you and I may Allah protect us from all tests if we were in that position the first thing what would you ask you would say Allah protect them right protect them let them not perish let them not die Allah give them food Allah give them shelter right Allah give them some help he is not asking for any of that he is not asking for any of those things first thing I am leaving there and again see the Adab of your Ibrahim Ali Salah he is not saying O Allah you know what you only told me to leave I didn’t bring them here on my own you told me to leave them so please look after them no O Allah I am leaving my family here in this valley in which there is no cultivation see the Adab of how he is addressing Allah SWT he is not saying why did he bring them there because Allah told him but he does not say that he doesn’t say O Allah you told me you told me to bring them so look after no Ya Rabb I am leaving them here so that they may establish Salah right so then give them influence give them influence over people let people be obedient to them and and give them peace from the fruits of the earth imagine first see the sequence of this and then see what he is asking he is asking for the top let people be obedient to them give them influence over the people and then he didn’t he didn’t say give them at least one piece of bread no give them fruits so bread and water everything is assured fruits is dessert right give them the top most the best the best the most beautiful see the way the dua is asked and then of course then see her position this dua he makes and he goes away she doesn’t just sit there she doesn’t say after Allah will protect us you know I don’t have to do anything no she is making effort that whole ritual is called it means what it means effort so what did she do she went on top of Safa and she looked around to see if she can see something and she came down that little baby is there she is there she runs there to him that’s why you make this you run between the two green lights then she runs there and then he goes to the other mountain Marwa she stands on top of that she looks around and then she comes back to Safa and she did it seven times so Sai is from Safa to Marwa is one Marwa to Safa back is two and Safa back to Marwa is three and Marwa back to Safa is four and so on until you finish seven right and this is the commemoration of the life of somebody who was so obedient that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala took her action and made it into Ibadah she did the Sai because she was looking for to see if people can come we do Sai because she did Sai her Sai was an action which Allah rewarded her our Sai is Ibadah it’s worship and it’s a unique worship which is done only in this in this case right the Arabs call the Umrah Haj Sogar and they call the Haj Haj Akbar right Haj Asgar and Haj Akbar so in the subcontinent there is a mistaken impression that Haj Akbar means Haj on Friday no that’s all wrong Haj Akbar is the main Haj and the reason why it’s not Friday or Saturday because it’s not Friday or Saturday because Friday and Saturday is not in our hands so it would be very unfair if somebody poor guy makes all the effort it so happens Haj is on Tuesday what’s his fault and he says somebody else will get more reward because he went on Friday ridiculous Allah gives the same reward Allah is just Allah does not do unjust things for no fault of somebody he won’t give some more reward to someone so Haj Akbar and Haj Asgar is called Haj Akbar because it’s the it’s a part of the Haj so Alhamdulillah when we do this the main thing is to be is to make the Umrah with this complete awareness and that’s why we put on the Umrah and that’s why we put on the Umrah when we make the Umrah we inshallah tomorrow morning take a shower after Salatul Fajr take a shower and then put on the Umrah and then make the Niyah that we are going to make Umrah and we ask Allah make us complete it and this Umrah we say until we complete the Umrah or until in case we are prevented for some reason which is out of our control then you can come out of Umrah if that if you don’t say that then you have to come back here and complete the Umrah the Umrah and so on so make that Niyah so make the Niyah and then the Haram itself is something where we come before Allah SWT literally with our Kafan right you are not wearing anything inside no underwear no you know vest or anything only the two pieces of cloth which is the Kafan literally so you are coming there as a as the day as you are born you know the day when we die we will have nothing everything will be taken away from us except two pieces of cloth that’s how you are going before Allah SWT and everybody whether you are a king or a pauper makes no difference you are going before Allah you go like this without anything we go without any head covering in Islam this is a we have turned thing upside down in Islam to cover your head is a sign of honour slaves were not allowed slaves were not allowed to cover their heads they could not wear a cap in the old days of slavery the slave was not permitted to wear a cap because a cap was a mark of honour only a free man could wear a cap and that’s why the turban is a sign of you know sardari that you are the chief of leadership right and that’s why the Imam wears when he makes khutba on the mimbar he wears an Imam unfortunately in America we have so called scholars who make khutba with a bare head I mean ridiculous absolutely Allah has given you honour you don’t want the honour but in Umrah and Hajj when you are in the state of Ihram you are not permitted to cover your head because you are going there as a slave of Allah there is no superiority and inferiority you are going there as a slave of Allah you do not cover your head you go barefoot if you wear sandals and so on it must not cover the top bone of the foot no socks you are going barefoot you are going like this in a complete state of showing Allah I am nothing I am your slave I have no irada la hawla wa la khuwata illa bik and we go and we make a lot of worship as you make tawaf of the of the Kaaba glorify Allah and make lots of dua so you can say La ilaha illallah Allahu Akbar ayatul kursi suratul ikhlas you know last ayats of suratul hashir whatever you remember and then make a lot and lots and lots of dua right there are the books you get first chakkar you make this dua second chakkar all this is not none of that is from the sunnah there is no need to do all that Allah made life simple do it simply don’t complicate yourself so just make lots of dua you dua you can make in Arabic you can make dua in your own language you can do anything absolutely no problem but continue make sure that you make a lot and lots and lots of dua that’s the whole purpose the whole purpose of that whole irada is make dua similarly for safa and marwa and then we shave our heads and that’s it you come out of ihram and alhamdulillah then inshallah so we ask Allah SWT to accept our umrah to make it easy to accept our duas we ask Allah SWT to remind us to do duas which please Him and to accept those duas we ask Allah SWT to protect everybody in this world all good people we ask Allah SWT to bring about peace and tranquility in this world and to end all these wars and all that stuff which is going on we ask Allah SWT to be pleased with us and never to be displeased wasallallahu ala nabiyyil kareem wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma’in wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Allahumma wa barakatuh
