Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. My dear respected brothers, sisters, elders, I remind myself and you that mankind, all human beings, irrespective of where they are, where they come from, which country they live in, what nationality, what race, what religion, all human beings live a life of anxiety. It’s only the level of anxiety which differs, it’s only the things that they are anxious about which differs, but they all live a life of anxiety. And who are the saints? Allah Almighty said, Those who believe and are righteous. And what do they have? They have good tidings in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah Almighty said, Do not change. Why? I remind myself and you that the only people who are free from anxiety are the Awliya of Allah. Those special people who Allah Almighty chooses and who Allah Almighty has close to Him. And Allah Almighty said about them, They have no fear and they have no anxiety, they have no sadness. No fear on them, no anxiety. They have no fear. Fear is with respect to the future, what will happen? And sadness and regret is with respect to the past. They do not have fear because they have Tawakkul on Allah SWT. And they have Rida’a Bil Khada. So Alhamdulillah, whatever Allah does, good for me. And I have Tawakkul on Allah. He will only do good. I am an Abduh of Allah. I will do my best to obey Allah SWT, to fulfill the purpose of my creation, which is Ibadah of Allah. He said, I have not created a human for anything other than my worship, so I worship Allah SWT. That is my job. So no fear about the future. And as far as sadness and regret is concerned, yes we make mistakes, yes we commit sins, yes we forget. And for this Allah SWT has said, Tawakkul. Make a step forward. Make a step forward. Look, look how Allah SWT says, He says, Say, O My servants, those who are prophets, witnesses and witnesses of Allah, Say, O My servants, those who have transgressed against their own selves, do not be deceived by Allah’s mercy. Allah forgives all sins. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. See the mercy of Allah. Allah SWT said, He is calling the people who commit sins His slaves. Allah is not saying, Say, O My slaves, who are the Ambiya, the Shuhada, the Salih. No, Allah says, Say to them My slaves, who? Those who disobeyed Me. Those who committed sins, those who transgressed against themselves because nobody can harm Allah. When we commit a sin, we are harming ourselves. Ask yourself, somebody who is a drunkard, who is he harming? Somebody who smokes cigarette after cigarette, who is he harming? Somebody who is gambling, who is he harming? Somebody who is a druggy, who is he harming? Somebody who lies and cheats and slanders and abuses people, who is he harming? Himself, even in this dunya. Even though some of his actions or all actions may harm other people, they first harm the individual. This is the figment of the imagination the shaitan has put into our, may Allah protect us from shaitan. And we think all of this is fun. Dying of cancer is fun. Go look in the hospitals. See how fun it is to die of lung cancer. To lie in a gutter, in your own vomit is fun. But shaitan does not let you see that. Allah is saying, these are my slaves. And the shaitan says, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Surely Allah will forgive all sins. And surely Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala huwa al ghafurur rahim. He is the most forgiving, the most merciful. So the awliya of Allah have no fear because they have tawakkul. And they have ridha bil khada. And they have no hudan, they have no sadness. They have no fear. They have no fear. They have ridha bil khada. And they have no hudan, they have no sadness. Because they make haste in seeking forgiveness of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Rasulullah s.a.w, the one who is free from sin, the one who Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala forgave the past and the future. The best of the best of all creation. He says, I make istighfar 70 times a day. And in another narration 100 times a day. The sahabah said we count it 100 times a day. How much istighfar do I make? How much do you make? Make these things, making 100 times istighfar. Astaghfarullah illa ila ila ila huwa al hiw al khayyum wa atubh barai. Make this into a farthing in your life. Right? Absolute farthing. There is no excuse for this. Say alhamdulillah. 100 times. And if Allah used to have it, we make more and more inshallah. But 100 times astaghfarullah every single day. What is the benefit of seeking forgiveness? Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will open doors for us where there are no doors. Allah will solve our problems. Allah will remove us from our difficulties. I did not say that. The nabi of Allah said this in the hadith in Musnad Ahmad. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala himself said this. Who is a Muttakhi? The one who seeks forgiveness. The one who is constantly aware of the importance of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in his life and is constantly seeking forgiveness, he is a Muttakhi. And for him Allah said, Ya ja’allahu makhraja. I will take him out from his difficulties. We try to, our problem is we try to do things for which we have no power to do it. We try to solve our own problems. We cannot solve our problems. Allah can solve our problems. So if you want to try to solve your problem without seeking the help of, I am not saying don’t work. Of course you have to work. But if this work is happening without the connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, it cannot succeed. It cannot succeed. I have the right tool but I have not plugged it into the power socket. The tool is a tool. It’s there. It won’t do anything. Even if it’s the right tool. I want to drill a hole. It will not drill a hole until I plug it in the socket. Then I press a button, it drills a hole. We are stuck in tools. Do this, do this, do this, this mansubha, this plan, this plan. Where is the power coming from that? Where is the power socket? Where is the connection? Without the connection, plan is good. Tool is right. Nothing wrong with the tool. But it is not plugged in. That is why Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said to his Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Ya ayyuha al muzzamilu, qumil layla illa khaleel. For what? Allah said, oh the one wrapped in garments is sleeping. Stand up in the night, illa khaleel, whole night, except for a little bit. Because you are going to be given a very difficult job, qawlan taqeela. Very heavy thing. Charge the batteries. Plug in the connection. Get ready. When the weight comes, it gives you power. You can carry it. We all live lives of anxiety. And I submit to you that it is completely unnecessary. It is totally unnecessary. Because Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, huwa allathee khalaqa al samawati wal arda fi sittati ayyamin tummastawa ala al arsh. Ya’alamu ma yaliju fil ardi wama yakhruju minha wama yanzilu minas samai wama ya’ruju fiha. Wahuwa ma’akum aeena ma kuntum. Wahuwa ma’akum aeena ma kuntum. Wa Allahu bi ma ta’maluna basir. In suratul hadith, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, He, jalla shanahu, is the one who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then made istewa on his arsh. He knows what goes into the earth and he knows what comes out from the earth and he knows what descends from the heavens and he knows what goes up to the heavens. And he is with you wherever you are. Wahuwa ma’akum aeena ma kuntum. He is with us in the mosque, he is with us in the house, he is with us in the car, he is with us in the road, he is with us in the hospital, he is with us in the restaurant. He is with us in the haram. Wa yaadu illaah, he is with us in the haram. He is with us. I am the one who is in the haram. Wa lakin allamah. Wa ma’ana fi awqaat. I say, awqaat is sirg. Where is sirg? Where is sirg? Allah says he is with us. He is with us in the masjid, he is with us in the home, he is with us in the car, he is with us in the hospital, he is with us in the shop, he is with us on the road. And he is also with us in the places of haram. If we go there, may Allah protect us. He is with us in the places of secret which we think is secret. What is secret from Allah? What is the secret? He is seeing what you do. He is seeing what you do. Basir. Basir. He is seeing. He says the information is not like seeing. Allah says I am seeing. Allah protect us from ourselves. My brothers and sisters, I remind myself of you that Allah said wa huwa maa kum aeena maa kuntum. Allah says he is with you wherever you are. Now what is the benefit of having this awareness? The awareness of the ma’iyat of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, the awareness of the presence of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in our lives. Why is Allah saying this to us? I am with you. What is the benefit? What is the benefit? What is the benefit of experiencing the ma’iyat of Allah in our lives at all times? What is the benefit? What is the benefit? There are two major benefits. The first benefit is that the awareness of the presence of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in our lives is a shield. It is a protection from sin. Because if I am aware that my rabbi is watching me, that my rabbi is with me, he is hearing me, he is seeing me, there is no secret place for me to go and do something, then how can I commit sin? How can I lie? How can I cheat? How can I deceive somebody? How can I curse? How can I use bad language? How can I do anything wrong? How can I miss salah? How can I say I won’t fast in Ramadan because I have to go to the gym? Inna li la hi wa inna li la ya la jam. Inna li la hi wa inna li la ya la jam. Awareness of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in our lives, I am talking about awareness. The presence is there. Whether we are aware or not aware, it doesn’t matter. The presence of Allah is there. Allah is watching. Allah is with us. But when we are aware of this, that’s the reason why it is very important to be aware. It frees us. It protects us from sin. We cannot commit a sin. You say, Allah is watching, how can I do this? Tell me, what is the benefit of being protected from sin? Jannah. Because if a person is protected from sin, he does not commit any sin. He has only good deeds, he goes to Jannah. He is protected from sin even if he, despite this awareness, because our awareness is weak. So sometimes we are not aware, we make a mistake, instantly he becomes aware, he makes istighfar. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala promised to forgive. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala mentioned this awareness of His presence in our lives as a sign of intelligence. In the ayat about Suratul Aalimran, the ayat about al-ulil al-baab, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala described who are al-ulil al-baab. Al-ulil al-baab. Al-ladeena yadhkuroon Allah kiyamahu wa qu’oodahu wa ala junubiim. They are aware of Allah, they remember Allah. Yazkuroon Allah, they remember Allah. Standing, sitting and lying down. Qiyaman wa quodhan wa ala junubiim. Wa yatafakkuroon fi khalqi samawati wal-ard. And they reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth and the day and the night. Immediate, tawwa istighfar. O Allah, You have not created all of this in vain, You did not make me just like that, save me from the hellfire. Protection from sin. Huge benefit. Believe me, if we get nothing in life, but we live a life which is free from sin, khalas, we are in Jannah. We are in Jannah. The second big benefit of having the awareness of the presence of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in our lives is freedom from stress. No stress, no fear. Why? Allah hum aai, Allah hum aana. What about this one, that one? Allah hum aana. Allah is with me. In my youth when I was in college, I was in the school of science. In my youth when I was in college, from high school to by the time I finished college, I used to do a lot of hunting. And we are talking about India. We are not talking about these forests where the only dangerous thing is a raccoon. We are talking about leopards and tigers and you know, big stuff. But in the forest where I used to, I used to spend literally days and nights in the forest. I used to sleep in the rivers, dry rivers. But I had my gun with me. And I know how to shoot. So may Allah have mercy when I, you know, I am talking about those days. I am not saying I didn’t have trust in Allah, I had trust on the gun, but anyway, Allah haalab. But I knew I can shoot. I mean, okay, so if the tiger gets you on the back, it’s, you know. So two things same. One is that tigers and leopards don’t like junk food so that nobody, they didn’t think I was attacking them to eat. And the second thing is that I know I can shoot. So there is a sense of comfort to say I am armed. I have a weapon in my hand. I can take care of myself. Imagine the comfort of the tiger. Imagine the comfort a person will have if he has Allahumma anha, Allahumma a’i. Hasbunallahu wa ni’ma al-laqeel. With istidhar of that, the word we know. This is the istidhar of hasbunallahu. As Ibrahim a.s. had when he was tied up and thrust up and in the cup of the trebuchet about to be shot off into the fire. Jibri alayhi as-salam comes to him and says, can I help you? Can I do something for you? He said no. Hasbunallahu wa ni’ma al-laqeel. He goes back, comes back and says, your rub is asking. What do you want from him? He said, I want whatever he wants. He doesn’t have to, he does not need to ask. I want whatever he wants. Ridha bil qadha. Total. What do you want? I want what my rub wants. If my rub wants to burn me, alhamdulillah. If my rub wants to save me, he can save me. So when Ibrahim a.s. removes the zariyah between him and the tiger, so when Ibrahim a.s. removes the zariyah between him and his rub, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala does not use the zariyah. And Allah told us, Kulna yaa naa rukuni bardan wa salaamun ala Ibrahim. Allah said, we commanded the fire, not Jibri. No more Jibri. No more Jibri. This command is between Allah and His servant. Between Allah and His khaliq. Kulna yaa naa rukuni bardan wa salaamun. Not just bardan. Wa salaamun. What did the people see? The people saw the fire. They saw that the fire did not go out. The people did not see the fire. Allah did not put out the fire. Let the fire burn. The fire can do nothing unless the rub of the fire allows it to do it. So I ask you and myself, what can this dunya do to us if our rub is with us? Feel this. It’s not just a matter of saying it. I know we all say it. Feel it. What can the dunya do to us? Unless my rub wants it. And I want whatever my rub wants. Allah maa hdinaa fiman hadayt wa aafinaa fiman afayt wa tawallanaa fiman tawallayt wa balik lanaa fiman aatayt wa akhinaa wasrifanaa sharramaa akhadaayt fa innaka takhdi wa laa yuqdaa alayk fa innahu laa yuqdaa wa laa yuqdaa alayk fa innahu laa yuqdaa wa laa yuqdaa alayk tabarakta rabbana wa ta’alayt ba astaghfiruka allahumma wa natu’u ilayk
