My dear brothers and sisters, respected elders, this life is a transaction.
It’s a deal.
To get something, we must give something.
So let us look at our lives and see what we are paying to get what we have.
I’m going to count some things.
It’s not an exhaustive list.
Just to give you some thinking points.
Ask yourself,
what did we give up for the conveniences of modern living?
What did we give up to be able to eat processed food and drink sodas?
What did we give up to get iPads and smartphones into our lives?
That is the real cost, not the dollars you charged on your card.
What did we get?
What did we give up to get 24-7 news reports?
Which rapidly morphed into super-focused propaganda.
For example, we used to get literally hourly, maybe even minute-wise, I don’t know,
reports on the number of COVID deaths in the world.
What did that do to us and our psychology?
Today we get the same about Gaza.
One of the things that happens, and I’m speaking as a psychologist,
and that is the reason I’ve said over and over and over again,
do not watch these videos.
It deadens the heart.
It makes you immune to the pain.
Tears no longer come to your eyes.
You no longer cry before Allah in tahajjud because you got used to that.
Seeing it over and over and over and over.
And that’s the purpose of it.
We get all these things.
We get all these things.
We get all these things.
We get all of this in the form of graphic videos on our phones and social media feed.
What did we give up to get this news?
Think about that.
And what would have been lost if we did not get this news over and over and over again?
Our children compare their faces and their beauty and their bodies and their clothes
with everything superficial.
With everything superficial.
With so-called influencers.
And they get anxious.
And they get depressed.
And they despair.
And they commit suicide.
Have you ever heard of an influencer who talks about grades in school
and working for real, worthwhile goals and feeding the hungry and helping the sick?
Have you ever heard any influencer talk about these things?
Things of true value?
Our children are exposed through these influencers to cultures and values that alley cats would be ashamed of.
But thanks to the power of the media, all that is normalized and applauded.
And those who challenge that are maligned and denigrated and cast into the garbage bin of old people from the old country who don’t understand us.
Go ahead, do what you want.
It’s your fate.
What did those children get in return?
Today, mental illness is in epidemic proportions.
Seven and eight year olds want to commit suicide.
And they need psychiatric treatment.
Do you think that’s accidental?
What did we get when we lost respect for parents and children and elders?
What did we get when we gave up reading?
What did we get when we substituted Instagram and YouTube shorts for serious study?
What did we get when we lost our adab to the extent where you would go to a sheikh and say,
shorten your lecture because I am getting bored?
Hmm?
Hmm?
Hmm?
Hmm?
Hmm?
I know all of these things.
Or at least I don’t know.
I don’t see all because I really don’t see how all have benefit.
But some of these things have benefits.
But pause for a minute and calculate the cost.
You got that benefit at what cost?
As they say, there are no free lunches.
So let’s look at what we paid and ask, is it worth it?
I remind myself, I knew that returns on interest are not the same as the cost of a job.
I remind myself, I knew that returns on investment are assessed in terms of their magnitude and guarantee of safety.
For example, if I sell my house and use the money to go on a world cruise in a luxury cruise liner,
I will return with some nice photos, some worn memories, some amazing experiences and be homeless.
Would you call that return on investment?
Or a foolish waste of resources?
On the other hand, if I sell my house and buy two shops, rent them out, move into an apartment on rent, nice apartment, live off the income,
would that be a return on investment?
To give up something permanent that appreciates in value in exchange for something temporary that depreciates,
no matter how enjoyable the latter might be, is stupidity.
Stupidity.
Stupidity.
A reason for the loss of money.
Allah called this life a transaction, a business, and He promised a return.
Allah said in Surah As-Saff,
…
…
…
…
…
…
وَأَنفُسِكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ وَخَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, which means,
O you who believe, shall I guide you, shall I show you a business,
tijarah, that will save you from a painful torment.
It is to have faith in Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and his messenger
and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives,
your effort, that is best for you if only you knew.
The quality of this particular business is that it is with Allah.
So there is no question of it failing.
Then our investment in it is with things that we don’t own anyway
and which we have in our possession only temporarily
and which all of them,
we will lose when we die.
Some we lose even while we are alive.
And Allah is saying, invest what I have given you,
it doesn’t even belong to you, won’t be with you anyway,
invest that and I will give you a return which will be yours and forever.
And the minimum of that return is 1000%,
10 times minimum.
And it’s eternal.
This is a reflection of the grace and generosity and mercy of my Rabb.
Jalla Jalaluhu.
That’s why Allah said,
Allah Ta’ala said,
Whoever brings one good deed shall have 10 times,
not 10%, not 100%, 10 times,
1000% equal to that.
10 times the like thereof to his credit.
And whoever brings an evil deed will have only the recompense of the like thereof.
That is one is to one.
And they will not be wronged.
SubhanAllah, it is impossible to understand
or even describe the generosity of Allah SWT.
Rasulullah SAW,
it is absolutely beautiful.
It is a beautiful, endearing narrative.
Told us about the last person to exit Jahannam.
Who will be granted entry into Jannah.
Rasulullah SAW said,
and this hadith is narrated by Abdullah Masood RA.
He said that Rasulullah SAW said,
the last person to enter Jannah will be a man who will
alternately walk and stagger and be touched by the fire.
And in another narration,
it says he will crawl out on all fours.
Once he has passed out of the fire,
he will turn to face it and he will say,
blessed be he who has saved me from you.
And Allah has given me something that he did not give to the earlier
and the later generations.
Then a tree will be raised up for him.
And he will say,
Oh my Rabb,
bring me closer to the tree so I may enjoy its shade and drink of its water.
Allah SWT will say,
Oh son of Adam,
if I grant you this,
you will ask me for something else.
And the man will say,
no, no, no.
No, my Rabb.
I promise you,
I will never ask you for anything else.
Allah SWT will excuse him because he’s seeing something that he had no patience to resist.
It’s so beautiful.
And so he will bring him closer and the man will sit in his shade
and he will enjoy the cool thing and he will,
he will,
he will,
drink its water.
Then another tree will be raised some distance away,
even better than the first.
And the man will say,
Oh my Rabb,
please bring me closer to that tree so that I may drink its water and enjoy the shade.
And I will not ask for anything more.
Allah SWT will say,
Oh son of Adam,
did you not promise that just now that you will not,
that you will not ask for anything more?
Did you not ask for anything else?
And if I bring you close to the other second tree,
you will ask for something more.
The man will say,
Oh my Rabb,
I will not ask.
Please bring me close to the tree.
So he will sit in the shade of the second tree and he will enjoy that and drink its water.
And then a third tree will be raised up at the gate of Jannah.
And this will be even more beautiful.
And the man will say,
Oh my Rabb,
please bring me closer to the tree so that I may enjoy its shade and drink the water.
And I will ask,
I will not ask for anything more.
And Allah SWT will say,
Oh son of Adam,
did you not say,
did you not promise me that you will not ask anything more?
And he will say,
Ya Rabb,
really,
I will not ask anything more.
So Allah SWT will excuse him once again and he will bring him closer to the tree.
And when he is brought close,
and now remember he is literally sitting at the gate of Jannah.
Huh?
He will say,
Ya Rabb,
please let me enter it.
Just inside.
Just let me enter the gate.
Allah SWT will say,
Oh son of Adam,
what do you want?
So that,
what can I give you?
So that you will never ask me for anything after that.
And then Allah says,
will it please you?
If I give you,
all that you had in the world,
not that he had,
all that the world had.
Everything in the earth you came from and double that.
Twice that.
In another narration in Sayyid Bukhari,
it says,
Allah said,
I will give you everything which you had,
the whole earth and everything in content,
and ten times that.
Will you be happy with that?
You came from the earth.
Whatever you had,
I will give you.
And you will not ask me for anything.
Okay?
So Allah SWT says,
you will not ask me for anything after that.
You will not ask me for anything.
Nothing is in your heart.
You will not ask for anything else.
That is,
you will not ask me for anything.
I will give you everything you have in the earth.
that you came from the earth whatever the earth contained plus 10 times will
you be happy with that that’s what was our son said the man will say oh my Rob
you are making fun of me when you are rabble ala means they will not believe
what Allah is telling see Allah you are making fun of me and you are a ballad me
and even Masood Radha la no smiled when he narrated his Hadith and this was from
the tradition of our hadith scholars and Mahdi soon that any hadith where Rasul
sallallahu alaihi wasallam narrated it in a particular way when the scholar narrates
it he would make sure he narrated it in the same way same wording and so on
including facial expressions for example in one hadith and we saw the salam held
his tongue his blessed tongue between his two fingers like this
and he said this will get more people into the hellfire than anything else so
when the more they soon they read the studies they hold their tongue this is
in honor of the Rasool alaihi salatu wasalam so you have been even Masood
Ngara say he’s smiling and then in the Masood says why don’t you ask you why I’m
flying so this is a why this would so the people listening to me said they
asked you why are you smiling he said because it was full of salam
Mild
And he said
They asked him
The sahabah
May Allah
Literally I’m telling you
Subhanallah
That’s why I make
I mean these are my rules
There’s not
Don’t
Find a fatwa over it
I say that
You must never
Take the name of a sahabi
Without saying
Radhi Allah anhu
Or radhi Allah anha
Or radhi Allah anhum
Or radhi Allah anhu
As
Applicable
You must never take the name
Of Muhammad
Sallallahu alaihi wa alaihi wa sahibu salam
Without saying
Sallallahu alaihi wa alaihi wa salam
Never never never
Don’t say the prophet said
Rasulullah said
Na inna lillahi wa inna lillahi wa
If you are in such a hurry
Don’t say the name at all
There’s no the prophet
No
Inna lillahi wa alaihi wa alaihi wa
Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa alaihi wa salam
He’s ours
This is his waqar
This is his right
Never ever
Do that
And if somebody does that
Stop them mid-sentence
And say
Shaq
This is not how you take the name
Of the Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
So when Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
Said this
And he smiled
Saaba
Ridwanullah ya rahim ajmain
They asked him
Ya Rasulullah
You’re smiling
Why?
Because then
So the Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said
Because the Rabb of the worlds
Rabbul Alameen
Will smile
When he is asked
Are you making fun of me
When you are the Rabb of the Alameen
When you are the Rabb of the worlds
And he will say
Jalla Janalahu
I am not making fun of you
And I am able to do
Whatever I want
So go
That Jannah
Which is the whole world you came from
Plus ten times that
Is yours
And this is for the last person
Who comes out of Jannah
Meaning he went into Jannah
And he spent whatever time
Allah had decreed in the Jannah
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala
To save us from Jannah period
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala
Decree that we do not even
Swell Jannah
Or see Jannah
Or feel the fire of Jannah
Or go anywhere
Anywhere
Anywhere near the Jannah
So the Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
Al Fatiha
