Six months

Auto-generated transcript:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
And peace and blessings be upon the honourable Prophet and the messengers.
Muhammad and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
Peace be upon you all.
My brothers and sisters, somebody sent me a very nice quote today from Twitter.
And that quote was, six months from now, you can have six months of excuses or six months of progress.
Six months from now, you will have either six months of excuses or six months of progress.
And guess who that depends on?
Right?
Who does it depend on?
Who does it depend on?
So my question to myself, and I request you to ask the same question to yourself is,
what do you want to do with your time?
Because Allah told us very clearly,
Allah said, for the human being is only what he works for.
Not what he talks about, not what he dreams about, not what he posts on social media about,
not what he writes about.
What he works for.
Talking about work is not work.
Posting on social media about work is not work.
Dreaming about work is not work.
Wishing about work is not work.
Telling the world about work is not work.
Only work is work.
Because a day will come when we will face Malakul Maut.
We know that day will come.
We do not know when that day will come.
But we know it will come.
And at that time, we will truly understand the value of time.
Not now.
Now it all looks like fun and games.
Just imagine, this won’t happen to you or me, but just imagine, just to get the impact of it.
Say Malakul Maut comes and stands in front of you.
And Malakul Maut says, I will give you five minutes.
Okay?
Your time for death is now, but I’ll give you five minutes.
First question, will you take it or not?
Five minutes.
Yes or no?
Why?
What can happen in five minutes?
How can your life change in five minutes?
Maybe you led a whole life of disobedience to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala.
You’re getting five minutes now before you die.
Can that change anything?
Yes or no?
This is what.
Speak.
Speak.
Speak.
Speak.
Speak.
Yes.
How?
Forgiveness.
Forgiveness.
Exactly.
In that five minutes, you can weep and cry and make sincere tawbah and Allah Subhanahu
wa ta’ala promise to forgive.
So, we have a chance of getting out.
Right?
You won’t get this five minutes, believe me.
Nobody gets it.
It is all a lie.
But today, you have that five minutes and a string of five minutes.
For free.
As much as you want.
What are you doing with it?
If you are going to sit in a Majeed and a Khatera and you’re going to joke amongst yourselves,
that’s a choice.
Do it.
We are getting used to in this country.
I mean, there was a time when I first came here, I used to get very upset.
Today, I don’t.
I ignore.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
I don’t.
Because what I told myself is, why do I care more about your life than you care about it
yourself?
You want to waste your life?
Be my guest.
No problem, free.
Waste it.
I’m not going to waste it.
So, what is six months?
Six months, I’ll tell you.
Just one.
Six months.
Six months, I’ll tell you, just to give you one example, right?
We walk five miles a day, Mara and myself.
Take an average of 30 days a month, because there are 31 days also,
just for the sake of calculation.
30 days a month, 680 days.
180 days multiplied by 5 is 900.
If we walk six months, 900 miles,
you can be in Louisville, Kentucky.
You can be in Charlotte, North Carolina.
But if you talk about walking 900 miles, you’ll still be here.
You will walk 900 miles, how?
If you walk 900 miles.
There’s no other way.
And of course, walking 900 miles will improve your health,
better strength of legs,
lower blood sugar,
better blood pressure, right?
You will be fitter and finer and more energetic and the works.
It’s also excellent for thinking.
If I’m working in my mind about something, I go for a walk.
By the time I finish my three, four miles and come back,
the thought is clear in my mind.
It’s a known way of thinking to walk.
Today I’ve talked about Coffee stuffing,
drinking coffee.
How to get alert while interesting you may realize the difference.
You will get를.
Along the way, you won’t get to do was to go drinking or 하는 in your head.
Try with a new business.
If you’re eating at three or four meal a day,
you won’t get very large interest in what you’re doing.
And you don’t want to particularly be independent either.
That’s when you do to.
So present to them La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasulullah.
Present to them Tawheed.
Begins with Tawheed.
If they accept, he didn’t say fight with them, argue with them, kill them, you know, debate
them, own them on the stage.
No, no, no.
Present it to them.
Invite them towards La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasulullah.
If they accept, teach them to pray.
Salaam.
He didn’t say if they accept, now teach them, you know, the Tafheem of the Quran.
Sit them down and have a Dars on Tafseer.
If they accept La ilaha illa Allah, teach them now to make introspection and make, you know,
Muraqabah and connect with Allah.
No.
Salaam.
Action.
The minute you say La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasulullah, Allahu Akbar.
Action.
Instant.
Salaam.
And the third thing he said to them was when they come on Sala, then ask them to give Zakat
and take it from their wealthy and give it to their poor.
He didn’t say take it from their wealthy and you build a palace.
He didn’t say take it from their wealthy and send it to Madina.
No.
Take it from their wealthy and give it to their poor.
Now here is one is individual action.
The second one is public action, which produces public results.
Because in any society, the wealthy are always fewer than the poor.
The poor are vastly more than the wealthy.
Number one.
Number two, the wealthy and the poor in any society do not have a great connection with
each other.
Almost the only connection is which poor person do I know?
The one who works in my house.
My cook, my bearer, my butler, my gardener, my whoever, right?
Other than that, I don’t know anybody.
Even that person who works in our house and many of us, all of us come from countries,
where we have servants.
If I ask you, think of your servant who works in your house.
Do you know where that person lives?
Did you ever visit their house?
I can guarantee you, maybe nobody, even if you did, maybe 1%, 99% of the people, you
have no idea where your servant lives.
You have no idea.
You’ve never been to their house.
You don’t know their condition.
Nothing.
They come, they work for you.
You give them a salary.
Maybe you give a good salary.
Alhamdulillah.
But they don’t know.
Their reality, you have no idea about.
So there is no connection.
Now what is Islam doing?
First, it is taking the money from the wealthy.
Secondly, it is giving to their poor.
So now what happens?
The poor are saying, ah, I was poor.
This guy, this great lord and this Nawab and this Raja and this Maharaja and this Sheikh
and whoever, Sultan, he never gave me a penny.
He would drive past.
He would drive in his car, in his bucket, in his whatever.
And I would be standing on the street and, you know, there’s a splashed mud on my face.
Nothing happens to me.
Nothing happens to him.
I got to go wash my face.
Now suddenly he is giving me.
Why?
Because of Islam.
So this Islam must be a good thing.
Third thing is, it now starts building connections between the wealthy and the poor in the same
country.
So it enhances and increases and makes better the social fabric, makes it stronger, makes
people more understanding of each other, makes people more empathetic, sympathetic to each
other, lets them see their condition.
We know our system of Zakat, right?
Unfortunately in these countries, our system of Zakat in these countries, you write a cheque,
you drop it in a box and you think your job is over.
That’s not Zakat.
That’s not Zakat.
That’s not Zakat.
The real way of giving Zakat is to take the money, go to the person and then give it to
them.
Not, you know, this is Zakat.
No, go give it to them, help them.
The idea behind it is, if I go with my two and a half percent, I don’t want more than
that, but I’m going with my two and a half percent, Alhamdulillah, good for me.
I go to this poor person, I give him that two and a half percent and I see for myself
that this is not going to help this person.
It is simply not enough.
Here is a person whose need is much greater.
Here is a person whose need is much greater.
Here is a person whose need is much more than this two and a half percent.
So what should happen if my heart is in the right place?
I’m going to say, no, hold on.
This two and a half percent, fine, take it.
Now let’s do, let’s sit down and work out a plan.
How can we help you in a way which takes you out of this poverty?
What can I do?
Your children have no education, they can’t go to school because this two and a half percent
won’t pay for that.
You keep this money, do what you want.
Let’s put your children in school.
I’m going to pay the fees of that.
Somebody is sick in your family, you can’t take them to the hospital, don’t worry about,
take them to the hospital.
I’m going to pay for that.
Now this expands.
So now what happens is that the whole society gets more interlinked and more responsible
for each other.
Action.
This is what Islam teaches us.
Islam doesn’t say go sit in a tasbih and do, you know, one lakh, lai lai la la, no.
You go and act, action.
And that is what I want to say to you and say to myself and remind you and remind myself
and end with that, which is six months from now, we have a choice.
Either we have six months of excuses or we have six months of progress.
Which will it be?
It will be whichever you want.
And the biggest problem for this is your friends.
Seriously, I’m telling you, I’m not joking.
Your friends.
The kind of friends.
The kind of friends you have.
If you have friends who drive you towards excellence, those are the friends you must.
I haunt him every day.
Can we go for a walk tomorrow morning?
Shall we go for a walk tomorrow morning?
Literally I haunt him.
Because I love his company.
We go for a walk.
Good for both of us.
Alhamdulillah.
But if you have friends who are going to distract you and this and that and the things are happening
and those friends are…
As I said, it’s your life.
You want to blow it away?
Be my guest.
You want to make something out of yourself?
That also is possible.
Since Sheikh is sitting here, Sheikh Alhamdulillah, we’re talking about the Jews recitation, I
mean memorization competition, right?
If you…
Six months, 180 days.
If you memorize one ayah per day, that is 180 ayats.
Surat al-Mulk has 30 ayats.
That’s it.
Surah Sadhya has 30 ayats.
So you would have memorized six surahs of the size of Surat al-Mulk and Surah Sadhya.
Just like that.
Just like that.
One ayah per day.
One ayah only.
Don’t do two.
One ayah per day.
In 180 days, you would have memorized six surahs the size of Surat al-Mulk.
So we can memorize one ayat a day.
Or we can talk about it.
We ask Allah to get us focused on action.
Because only action counts.
Only action benefits.
Only action results in progress.
And when we go before Allah, it’s only action which will help us.
We ask Allah to help us to do that and to make do actions which are beneficial for us
and to help us in ways that we cannot perceive.
Wa Salah Alah Al-Nabiyyil Karim Wa Al-Aalihi Wasabihil Jume’in.
BarakAllahu khair.
Wa Salamu Alaikum.
Bravely mean well.
And may Allah leave you with the best of health, health and wellness.
Al Fatiha.
