The position of Rasoolullahﷺ

Auto-generated transcript:

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. My brothers, sisters, elders, 1500 years ago, a window opened in the heavens and God spoke to man. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala spoke to us. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala sent Jibreel alayhi salam with his message, which was spoken to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam.
And he recited that to his sahaba. In a way, he recited that to us and we believed it because we believed him. The message of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala was later on written down.
As we know the Kitabullah, the book of Allah, but what was sent was the actual kalam of Allah, the speech of Allah.
It was the spoken word that came. It was heard, remembered, conveyed by the one who was known as As-Sadiq al-Ameen, the truthful and the trustworthy.
We believed it to be the word, the speech of Allah, not because Allah spoke to us, but because Muhammad sallallahu alayhi salam said so.
We believed in Muhammad sallallahu alayhi salam first, then we believed what Muhammad sallallahu alayhi salam told us.
The foundation of Islam is the truthfulness of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam.
Every single thing in Islam is constructed on this foundation.
And that is why Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala deliberately gave the orders for his worship.
The five things we know as the Arkan of Islam, the pillars of Islam.
He gave the commands, but he left it to his messenger sallallahu alayhi salam to explain and teach us how.
To do this.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala could have obviously very easily explained all of this in detail in the Quran.
He did not do that.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said very clearly, for example, the first of the Arkan of Shahada of how do you enter Islam.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said,
وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِي غَيْرَ إِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
Allah said, whoever seeks a religion.
Okay.
Or comes with a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him.
And in the hereafter, he will be one of the losers.
And then he left it to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to tell us how to enter Islam.
And it was Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam who said to the people,
قُلُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ تُفْلِهُ
Say, لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ بَحَمَّدُ رَسُولَ اللَّهُ
And become successful.
Because if you don’t do that, you will be unsuccessful.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala made Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
not only the teacher of the way to enter Islam,
but made him the door through which one enters this religion.
Belief in Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as the Rasul of Allah,
as the Messenger of Allah, and as the final Messenger of Allah,
as the last Nabi and Rasul is intrinsic to Islam.
It is intrinsic to the faith.
Without believing in Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
you cannot be a Muslim.
Without believing that Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
was the last and final Messenger,
the final Nabi, the final Rasul,
without believing that,
and instead believing that there was somebody else
or there is somebody else who can, who has come or will come after him,
renders us out of, renders that person who believes that out of Islam.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, the next pillar,
commanded us to pray.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said,
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said,
Nobody has the right to be worshipped except me.
So worship me and establish as-salah, iqawati salah, for my remembrance.
And then he left it to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
to teach us.
He taught us how to do it.
The method of the salah was left to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
who taught the Sahaba,
رضوان الله عليهم أجمعين
and he said to them,
صلوا كما رأيتموني أسلّي
He said, pray as you have seen me pray.
He did not say pray as Allah told you to pray.
He said, no, pray as you have seen me pray.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ordered us to fast in Ramadan.
And he said,
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said,
Oh, you believe fasting?
Assume fasting has been prescribed for you
as it was prescribed for those before you
so that you may become al-muttaqun.
And then Allah jalla jalaluhu left it to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
to explain what is the meaning of fasting.
And all its mathail.
When to start, when to finish, what breaks it, what to do if you break it,
and so on, and so on, and so on.
Without learning and understanding these rules,
it is impossible to fast.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ordered us to establish salah
and pay zakat and give something called qard hasana.
And he said,
وَأَقِمُوا صَلَاةً وَآتُوا الزَّكَاتَ وَأَقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ خَرَضًا حَسَنًا
Allah said establish salah and give zakat
and lend to Allah a good loan, qard hasana.
And then he left it to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
to explain to us what zakat is liable on.
What is zakat?
How much is zakat?
For whom is it liable?
Who must pay zakat?
Who is eligible to receive zakat?
Zakat is for what period of time?
Zakat is on what kind of assets?
And so on.
All of this Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala left it to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
to explain this meaning of zakat.
JazakAllah.
Finally, the last pillar of Islam about hajj.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ordered us and he said,
Allah said,
Verily the first house of worship appointed and built for mankind was that at Bakka,
which is Makkah, full of blessing and guidance for all the alameen,
for all the worlds, for the men and jinn.
In it are manifest signs.
For example, the maqam of Ibrahim, the place of Ibrahim alayhi salam.
Whoever enters it,
he attains salama, security and safety.
And hajj to the house,
which is the house?
The Kaaba.
Hajj to the house is a duty that mankind owes to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
Those who can afford the expenses,
conveyance, provision, health, residence and so on,
and whoever disbelieves,
whoever does not, denies hajj,
then this person is a disbeliever.
Then Allah stands not,
in need of any of the alameen.
Allah does not need anyone in the whole of creation.
Now,
and then He left it to Rasulullah s.a.w. to explain and teach us what constitutes hajj.
What is hajj?
Rasulullah s.a.w. said,
خُضُوا عَنِّي مَنَاسِكَكُمْ
He said, take from me the manasik,
the stages, the pillars, the arkan of hajj,
the method of hajj.
Rasulullah s.a.w. taught us the pillars of hajj,
the arkan of hajj,
to the extent that,
although Allah s.w.t. said,
hajj to the house of Allah,
hajj to the house is a duty that mankind owes to Allah,
it was Rasulullah s.a.w. who told us what that means.
And that means,
standing not next to the Ka’bah,
but standing in Arafah.
Standing in Arafah.
He said, the one who does not stand in Arafah on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah,
did not do hajj.
Allah s.w.t. did not specify a date in the Quran.
Allah did not say,
hajj to the house of Allah,
Allah on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah.
Allah could have said this.
Allah said, hajj to the house of Allah.
So supposing I say, well you know, now is the right time to go,
it’s all, there’s no crowd, I’m going for hajj.
Is it acceptable?
And if I bring the dalil to say, Allah never said that.
Allah never said anything about anything.
He just gave the hukam.
When is hajj?
How is it to be done?
All the
arkan, all the rules and regulations of all the ibadat.
Reflect on this, think about this.
This is the maqab of Muhammad s.a.w.
I’m giving the examples of this, of the arkan of Islam, the pillars of Islam,
because these are the head of the matter.
These are the pillars.
This is creed.
This is the pillars on which our religion stands.
It is therefore in these pillars themselves that Allah s.w.t. established,
the religion of Islam.
The importance of Rasul s.a.w.
as the one we must follow,
without which it would be impossible to enter Islam or to worship Allah.
Muhammad s.a.w. is crucial, is critical, is central, is seminal,
is fundamental and essential to Islam.
He is not one among other important topics or principles or things.
He is the one without whom nothing else is possible.
That is why Allah s.w.t. protected his life, his ways, his words, his faith, his religion,
his religion, his religion, his religion.
He protected his life, his ways, his words, and created an entire generation of men and women
who lived with him, observed him closely, recorded everything he said or did.
They did this because they loved him more than anyone else.
And Allah s.w.t. is witness to that.
He said,
رَنْدَبِيُ أَوْلَا بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ
The Rasul, the Nabi is closer to the believers
than their own selves.
And this love was reciprocated by Rasul s.a.w.
who loved his companions more than he loved his own family.
About this Allah s.w.t. declared,
He said, verily there has come to you a Messenger Muhammad s.a.w.
from amongst yourselves.
It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty.
He Muhammad s.a.w. is anxious over you to be rightly guided.
For the believers he is compassionate, kind and merciful.
I remind myself and you that this is the position of Muhammad s.a.w.
Not more, not less.
And the reason I am saying that is because this is the problem with a lot of us.
There is one group of people who raise the level of Muhammad s.a.w.
almost to the point of shirk.
They almost worship Muhammad s.a.w. instead of worshipping Allah s.w.t.
One of the classic ones is on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal
they celebrate what is called Mawlud or Mawleed or Eid-e-Milad or Milad-un-Nabi and what not.
Something for which there is no dalil whatsoever.
Either in the life of Muhammad s.a.w. or in the life of the Sahaba or in the life of the Khulafa Rashideen.
The first Mawleed recorded and it is recorded, it is not an imagination.
First Mawleed recorded was in Egypt in the Fatimid dynasty 300 years after Nabi s.a.w. passed away.
12th of Rabiul Awwal actually is the day that Nabi s.a.w. died.
He died on that day.
So if somebody is celebrating something, you must ask him what are you celebrating?
Now you might say, well how come people are celebrating?
How come people know the day he died but they don’t know the day he married, the day he was born?
Very simple, very logical.
The day he died people knew this is the Nabi of Allah.
There were over a 100,000 people who had gone for Hajj with him.
They knew him, they were around him the whole time and he was dying.
This was a calamity beyond description.
So people obviously remembered the day.
But the day he was born nobody knew that the Nabi of Allah is being born.
Except Allah s.w.t.
A child was born, a random child was born in Makkah.
Allah knows he was not a random child.
Allah knew he was the best of the best.
Allah knew what he was doing.
But this is Allah s.w.t.
And it was not the custom of the Arabs to remember days.
They remembered years.
They used, sometimes they used the Roman calendar.
The Julian calendar.
Sometimes they used the Persian calendar.
But there was no practice at all of remembering any day.
Not just this particular day.
They did not have a date system.
12th of August what not or 12th of Rabiul Awal or 10th of Ramadan.
They didn’t have this system.
Even the years they did not have a year of by counting.
They said Amul Fil, the year of the elephant.
That is when Abraha attacked Makkah.
Amul Hosn.
When?
Later on, much much later when the Prophet s.a.w. had declared his khilafah.
When his Risalah.
When they were boycotted in the valley of Abu Talib.
That year of sadness when both Abu Talib and our mother Khadija Qubra passed away.
Is called the year of sadness.
Amul Hosn.
It’s not 19 something or 200 something.
No.
That was not their custom.
To understand is that the Arabs did not remember or did not know or did not make a note of the year the Prophet s.a.w. was born is perfectly natural.
Nothing surprising about that.
Second point to understand is that if it was important for Rasul s.a.w.’s birthday to be celebrated.
Who would have declared that?
Allah .
Who would have done it first?
Rasul s.a.w. himself.
He knew he was born on a Monday.
He said I was born on a Monday.
He said why do you fast?
He said I would like to fast.
I was born on a Monday.
And therefore I like to fast on a Monday.
He did not say I am fasting on Monday to celebrate my birthday.
Please understand this.
People give all these dalayl.
Right?
We celebrate because.
Did he say celebrating anything?
He said I was born on a Monday.
Therefore I thank Allah s.w.t. by fasting on a Monday.
He did not say it’s my birthday.
Therefore I am celebrating it.
The reason I am saying all this is.
If you celebrate my birthday there is no problem.
Because celebrating my birthday is not an act of worship.
But when you are celebrating the birthday of the Prophet s.a.w.
People who are doing maulid, maulad, whatever you want to call it.
They are doing it imagining that this is a virtuous action for which Allah will reward them.
That is the definition of worship.
Anything which is done as a virtuous action.
With the expectation of reward from Allah s.w.t.
Is an act of worship.
In Islam.
The only acts of worship which are authentic.
And which are permissible.
Are those that Rasul Allah s.a.w. himself did.
Any other act of worship which anyone else may bring from anywhere.
And say do this because it is virtuous.
Do this because Allah will reward you.
Do this because you will get sawab.
You must ask a question.
And what’s that question?
Did the Rasul of Allah s.a.w. do this?
If he did it.
If he commanded it.
Show me the dhalil.
Show me the proof.
Show me the evidence.
If he did that.
Alhamdulillah.
Absolutely no problem.
Please do that.
If there is no evidence to this matter.
If somebody says no, no, no.
My Sheikh said it.
Your Sheikh said it.
No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
He has never said it.
Fulan bin fulan said it.
And so on.
No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
We don’t follow anybody.
We follow Muhammad s.a.w. only.
If he did not do it.
We do not do it.
If he did not do it.
And we do it.
Then, it becomes a bid’ah.
It becomes haraam.
It becomes something which will not attract the blessing and the mercy of
Allah.
It will attract the anger of Allah.
So,
Please.
What is Fard?
With regard to the Rasool.
What is fard? What is the way of expressing your love for the Rasul?
Follow him. His itaat and his itiba.
He didn’t come for us to celebrate birthdays.
He came for us to follow him. He came for us to obey him.
He came for us to emulate him. His itiba and his itaat.
This is the sign. This is the true sign of somebody who loves Muhammad.
I was talking about the love that Rasulullah ﷺ had for his ummah,
which includes all of us inshaAllah.
Aisha Siddiqua Radheelana, her mother, she says,
one day I saw Rasulullah ﷺ looking very happy, very pleased, very cheerful face.
So she said, I thought I will take advantage of this.
And she said, Ya Rasulullah, please make dua for me.
Please ask Allah for me. Please make dua for me.
So Rasulullah ﷺ said, Ya Allah, forgive Aisha for her past and future sins.
Sirra wa alaniya, in secret or in public.
Anything that she may have done or is going to do, forgive everything.
Sayyid Aisha Siddiqua Radheelana said, I was so happy, I was so happy.
I laughed and she was…
She had her head in his lap.
She said, my head fell off his lap.
So Rasulullah ﷺ said to her, does my dua make you happy, Aisha?
She said, Ya Rasulullah, why would your dua not make me happy?
Such a beautiful dua.
He said, Ya Aisha, by Allah, by Allah.
This is my dua for my ummah in every salah.
Huh?
This is my dua for my ummah in every salah.
Imagine, we didn’t even ask him for this.
This is the Rasul, Ali, Sirra.
So love him and show your love for him.
Not by singing Nasheed, not by dancing, not by celebrating this or that festival, but by obeying him.
But by Ibtibah, emulating him in everything you say or do, in everything in our entire lives.
In our appearance, in our actions, in our speech, in our dealings, in our, in everything we do.
Abdullah bin, another beautiful hadith, Abdullah bin Amr bin al-Aas, Radhi Allahe ala anhum, said Rasulullah ﷺ
recited the words of Allah about Ibrahim .
He said,
Rabbi,
Inna hunna adhulalna,
kathira minal naas,
fa man tabi’ani,
fa innahu minni,
wa man a’sani,
fa innaka ghafoorur raheem.
O my Rabb,
they have led astray many among mankind,
but whoever follows me,
he is of me,
and the one who disobeys,
you are the most forgiving,
most merciful.
And then he recited the words of Isa of Jesus,
may peace and blessings be upon all of them.
And he said,
in,
tu’adhibhum,
fa innahum ibaduk,
wa in taghfir lahum,
fa innaka anta al-azizul hakeem.
He said,
O Allah,
and this is after in Surah Al-Ma’idah,
there is a whole section,
the conversation that Allah will have with Isa ,
with Jesus,
peace be upon him.
And Allah will ask him,
did you tell the people to worship you?
Did you tell the people to worship you and your mother?
And Isa ,
and Jesus will say,
Ya Allah,
you know what I told them to do.
You are the witness.
How could I tell them to do anything other than what you told me to tell them?
And then he will make this dua,
and he will say,
in,
tu’adhibhum,
fa innahum ibaduk,
wa in taghfir lahum,
fa innaka anta al-azizul hakeem.
If you punish them,
they are your slaves.
It is your khudra.
You own them.
If you punish them,
they are your slaves.
And if you forgive them,
verily you,
only you,
are the Almighty and the always.
And then Rasul Allah raised up his hands,
and he said,
Oh Allah,
ummati ummati,
my ummah,
my ummah.
And he wept.
Now Allah knows everything.
Allah knows what the Rasul will do even before he knows it himself.
But Allah sent Jibreel and said,
go to Muhammad ,
and ask him,
what makes you weep?
Why do you cry?
Why are you weeping?
So Jibreel came to him and asked him,
and Rasulullah told him that he was worried about what is going to happen to us.
And he went to Allah and of course Allah knows.
And then Allah then said to him,
Jibreel,
go to Muhammad and say,
verily,
certainly,
we will please you with regard to your ummah.
And we will never displease you.
And this is a Sahih Hadith in Muslim Sharif.
We will please you with regard to your ummah.
And we will never displease you.
Ajeeb, eh?
We try to please Allah.
Allah is saying to me,
I will please you.
I will make sure you’re happy.
He asked Allah to make us among those who will make Rasulullah happy.
And that’s why we have to make a choice.
I remind myself when you,
when you are in the house of Allah,
it’s time to make a choice.
In the words of Allah,
He said,
Love is more than a murderer,
more than a murderer,
more than a murderer,
more than a murderer,
more than a murderer,
tell me,
who will I ask for the reward of love?
Even the prostrate Khalid,
even the friends from Iblis,
in the desert,
who will I ask for the reward of faith?
Who will I ask for the reward of faith?
He said, you love the murderer and the victim.
Tell me,
who will you claim the reward of love from?
From the murderer or the victim?
You prostrate to Allah,
you make saintha to Allah,
and you also have shaitan as your friend.
Tell me on the day of judgement,
who will you claim the reward of loyalty from?
From Allah or from the shaitan?
I quote this beautiful couplet because
this seems to be our situation today.
May Allah bless you.
May Allah bless you.
May Allah bless you.
May Allah protect us from ourselves.
We want to live in two
mutually exclusive worlds.
We want to run with the hare
and hunt with the hounds.
We want to live in two
opposite places simultaneously.
We want to travel in two opposite directions simultaneously.
We want to travel in two opposite directions simultaneously.
How is it possible?
How is it possible?
One of the most worrisome
developments of our
times of increasing
arrogance and arrogance
and its direct result
is the decreasing importance
that is given to the
sunnah of Rasulullah .
People who have not had the benefit of
islamic tarbiyah, where they would first be
connected with Allah and His Messenger
and then be taught the rest of the
deen as was the way of Rasulullah .
Today we have access to
books of fiqh and we ask
questions about the application
of the law without
any understanding of the spirit
of the law. People ask
about punishments without
realizing who they are disobeying.
They are more focused
on what the magnitude of their
disobedience is, whether it is small or big
without thinking and reflecting
on the glory and magnificence
of the one that they are disobeying.
The unspoken implication is
that as long as the disobedience is
small as defined by
fiqh,
the punishment associated with it
it’s okay and can be done.
It is in the same
spirit of disobedience
that people seek to ignore
the sunnah and treat it
with unimportance bordering
on disdain.
Because they say after all it’s not farb.
It’s only a sunnah.
I am reminded
of the statement of one of the great
ulama of our
subcontinent, Maulana Saeed Ahmad
Khasaf Rahmatullah Ali
and somebody said to him
that
I’ll say it in ruddu
and I’ll translate it.
He said, the man said to him
Maulana, yeh to sunnati hai na.
To Maulana ne farmaya, tumhari baad
sahi hai, magar tumhara lahja
kufr hai.
The man said to him, it’s only a sunnah.
He said your statement is right
but your lahja, your
tone is kufr.
Is disbelief.
I cannot
possibly over emphasize
the importance of following the sunnah
because the entire deen is based on it.
Take away the sunnah
and Islam is impossible to practice.
It is impossible to enter Islam.
It is impossible
to pray. It is impossible to fast.
It is impossible to give zakat.
It is impossible to make hajj.
Everything is impossible if you remove
Rasulullah
from the equation.
The name of the way
of Rasulullah
is Islam.
And Rasulullah’s sunnah
is how you practice Islam.
To correct our
concepts about the sunnah and the
rights that Rasulullah has
on us, we are duty bound
to fulfill those rights.
I believe it is necessary to understand
who Rasulullah is
and what our duty to him
means. And that’s why
it is so critically important to study
the seerah. It is very
very important to understand
the position of the Rasul.
As I said, we have
sadly two kinds of people. We have one kind of people
who
praise him
and glorify him
to the point of shirk.
And on the other hand, we have people who
treat him with disdain.
Now, I have heard people
saying, oh he was only a postman.
He brought the message.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun.
Somebody who calls
the Nabi postman believing that
has left Islam.
He is no longer a Muslim.
Allah sent the Nabi
with a message
with four things.
Yathlu alayhim ayatihi
Inform them.
Wayu zakkihim
Purify them.
Wayu aallimuhumul kitab
Then teach them
wal hikmah. Then show them and
make them practice.
Which, what postman?
If Allah
wanted to send the book, He could have
sent the book. Allah could have
sent one copy each for every person.
Allah is Allah.
Allah can do anything, right?
So don’t tell me there was no
printing press invented. Doesn’t need it.
If Allah wanted to do that, He would have done it.
Allah
sent the kitab
to Muhammad
.
Tawaraka alladhi
biyadhi
al-mulk
In his hand is all Khudr.
He asked Allah to help us
to understand the position
of our Prophet
with the idea
and the intention of emulating
him and following him in our lives
and thereby filling
our lives with khair and baraka
and afiyah.
Allah
sent the kitab to Muhammad
.
Allah sent the kitab to Muhammad
.
Allah sent the kitab to Muhammad
.
Allah sent the kitab to Muhammad
.
