Allah said: Ya Seen 36: 11 and are in awe (and fear) of the Most Compassionate without seeing Him. So, give them good news of forgiveness and an honorable reward. What is the meaning of fearing Ar-Rahman when He is the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent. The issue is translating Khashiyya as ‘fear’. Fear is a negative emotion. We hate the things we fear. But Allah said about the Believers: Baqara 2: 165 but the ˹true˺ believers love Allah more than anyone and anything
How do we understand the relationship between Khashiyya and Love? Khasiyya is not fear of Allah but fear of offending the One we love the most. How do we increase our love for Allah? Every day think of three things that Allah blessed you with and thank Him for them, by name. The way to do that is to look at each thing and imagine life without it. Then thank Allah because He did not deprive you of it but gave it to you as a gift. Do this every day. Make this a habit. Start your day with this and see how your heart will fill with gratitude towards Allah and your love of Allah will increase and you will be a much happier person than you are now. No matter how happy you may be, you will become happier. The truth is that happiness is not in the possession of things, positions or followers, or property or gold and silver or money. People who have all these things still commit suicide. But the Sahaba of Rasoolullah did not have any of these things but they were happy and helped others. That is because they had contentment. Contentment is the greatest wealth. Not anything material of this world. To be content is to be pleased with what Allah gave us.
Abu al-‘Ala’ Al-Hadrami (R) reported that Rasoolullah said, “Verily, Allah will put His slave to trial in what He gives him. Whoever is content with what Allah has apportioned for him, then Allah will bless him in it and expand it. Whoever is not content, he will never be blessed in it.” [Hadith Sahih – Musnad Imam Ahmad]
The thing to understand is that everything is a trial, a test. Wealth, health, power, authority, spouse, children, and their opposite are all tests. Allah said that He created death and life to test who does the best deeds. There are two words, two attitudes, which we need to succeed in the tests of life. Sabr and Shukr (Patience and Gratitude). If you have it, you thank Allah. If you don’t, you have patience. In both cases we are happy with whatever He decreed because His Decree is evidence that He chose this for us. What can we say when Ar-Rahman chooses something especially for us?
When we get used to thanking Allah and spending in the way of Allah Allah fills our hearts with contentment and removes all fear of the world and creatures. Allah’s light illuminates our hearts and dispels all the darkness of sorrow and worry – Allah said about the end of those who love Allah, thank Him and obey Him.
Fussilat 41:30-32 Surely those who say, “Our Rabb is Allah,” and then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them, ˹saying,˺ “Do not fear, nor grieve. Rather, rejoice in the good news of Jannah, which you have been promised. We are your supporters in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. There you will have whatever your souls desire, and there you will have whatever you ask for: A welcome from the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful ˹Lord˺.”
Imagine that day which all of us will face when we meet the angels. Al-Malakul Mawth (the Angel of Death) and he will say to us, “Do not fear, nor grieve. Rather, rejoice in the good news of Jannah, which you have been promised.” May Allah decree this for every one of us.
There is no greater fear for the Believer than the fear of facing Allah on the Day of Resurrection. But for the one who fears the anger of Allah when he can’t see him, Allah will dispel this fear with the message of His angels – but the condition is that we obey Allah and His Messenger in all aspects of our lives. Love for Allah is expressed only through obedience to Him in the way (Sunnah) of Rasoolullah.
I ask Allah to make us among those who are patient, thankful, obedient, and have trust only on Allah.
