My brothers and sisters, Allah SWT and the Prophet SAW in Riyadh Salihin again about the issue of dua. Abdullah bin Masood reported that the Prophet SAW used to make dua. I ask you for guidance. What tuqa, propriety, to be a mutakeel, wal afaafa, for justity, wal ghina, wani anil alam. From everyone and everything in this life and this world content. But this is in Sahih Muslim. Now guidance, in the commentary now he says, guidance means guidance towards virtue which one needs at every step. The ability to do good and steadfastness on the right path is also covered by the term guidance. To comply with the orders of Allah SWT and to prevent oneself from what he has forbidden is taqwa, which is tuqa, fear of Allah SWT, fear of His punishment and hope for His reward. The importance of which needs no elaboration. This is what Ramadan is all about. Afaaf is prevention from sins. It also means prevention from seeking help from others. And ghina means riches, which makes one independent of others. So much that all one’s hopes are centered on Allah anul. The prayer quoted in this hadith is very comprehensive indeed. Allahumma inni as’aluka al-huda wa al-tuqa, wa al-afafa, wa al-ghina. Taaraj bin al-Shi’aam al-Hutul Ali reported that whenever a man entered the fold of Islam, the Prophet would show him how to do Salat and then he would ask him to make this dua. Allahumma ghafir li warham ni wahdini wa aafini wa rzuqni. Allahumma ghafir li warham ni wahdini wa aafini wa rzuqni. O Allah forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, guard me against harm, and provide me with sustenance and salvation. In another narration, Taaraj bin al-Shi’aam al-Hutul Ali said, wa radhi Allah anhu, he said a man came to the Prophet, and asked him to make this dua. And he said, I will make this dua. And he said, I will make this dua. And he said, I will make this dua. And he said, I will make this dua. He said a man came to the Prophet, and asked him, O Prophet, what shall I say if I want to make dua to my Lord? He said, Allahumma ghafir li warham ni wa aafini wa rzuqni. O Allah forgive me, have mercy on me, protect me, and provide me with sustenance. Surely this supplication, this dua is better for you in this life and in the hereafter. So again, Allahumma ghafir li warham ni, have mercy on me, wa aafini, guide me, wa aafini, which is to guard me against any harm, wa rzuqni, and provide me with sustenance and salvation. Allahumma ghafir li warham ni, wa aafini, guide me, wa aafini, and provide me with sustenance. Naudhila ibn Amr bin Al-As reported that Rasulullah used to make dua. Allahumma musarif al-quloob, sarif quloobana ala ta’atik. Allahumma musarif al-quloob, sarif quloobana ala ta’atik. O Allah, controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to your obedience. And this is in Muslim Sharif. O Allah, controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to your obedience. Now this is a very, in the commentary Imam Naoui says, this is a very important dua because through it one seeks steadfastness in virtue. Everybody’s heart is always open to troubles and turmoil and ordeals, and is drifting from one situation to the other. If he is not supported by Allah SWT, he can deviate from the right path at any moment. For this reason, he has been required to pray to Allah SWT to save his heart from turning towards evil. And keep it towards Allah SWT because it is he Jalla Jalalahu alone who is capable of controlling hearts. So again, Allahumma musarif al-quloob, sarif quloobana ala ta’atik. O Allah, controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to your obedience. Abu Hurairah reported that Rasulullah SAW said, Seek refuge in Allah SWT against turmoils, attacks of misfortune, and evil of judgment and the joys of the enemies. So the enemy will be happy if something bad happens to you. So Rasulullah SAW is saying, make this dua, seek refuge in Allah against turmoil, attacks of misfortune, and evil of judgment and joys of enemies. This is in Bukharin Muslim. The commentary of this, the trouble of a trial which is unbearable for a person, and from which he does not have the power to rid himself, is called juhd al-bala, translated as turmoils. Some people are of the opinion that this is synonymous with poverty combined with a lot of children. But al-haf is iman al-hajar, al-hazkhalani, al-hutlali is of the view that it is only one of several kinds of troubles of a trial. Al-shaka is the opposite of good fortune, that is to pray for protection from misfortune. No decision of Allah SAW is wrong, but some of his decisions may be harmful for certain people, while others are benefited by them. This means that their goodness or badness is related to people. What it signifies is that one should pray to Allah SAW to keep one safe from such decisions, which may be harmful for this person. Jamaitat, the pleasure that one’s enemy feels on one’s troubles. In other words, it is prayed that Allah SAW may protect one from any such trouble, which is pleasing to one’s enemy, because when a person is in trouble, his enemies feel happy about this. In this hadith, one sentence was added by Abu Sufyan Abdul Anwar during his old age. We did not remember which one it was, but we learned from other hadiths that it was the pleasure of enemies. This hadith also shows the honesty and integrity of the narrators of hadiths. They were honest to the extent that if a few words of a dua were added to a hadith by its narrators, they would point it out. Some scholars have regarded these words an addition in the hadith by its narrator, but otherwise reliable. But it is not a problem of addition of authority, because in that case, the addition is the saying of the Prophet SAW, which is mentioned by one narrator and omitted by another. But here it is quite different as the narrator of the hadith himself is pointing out the addition made by him. In another hadith, Abu Hurra R.A. reported that the Prophet SAW used to say, O Allah, make my religion, which is the name of My command, and make my life, which is my life, and make my hereafter, which is my past, O Allah, make my religion easy for me, by virtue of which my affairs are protected, set right for me my world where my life exists, make good for me my hereafter, which is my resort to which I have to return, and make my life prone to the evil of the world. And this is in Muslims is a very comprehensive dua, which simply means, O Allah, help me to spend all my life in complete devotion to You, doing what You like and avoiding what You dislike. Ameen. Al-Fatiha.
