And do not die except in a state of Islam. We looked at the first part of the ayah. Today we look at the second part of the ayah where Allah said, لَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ Do not die except in a state of Islam. A state of Islam means a state of submission to Allah SWT.
Submission to Allah means submission to everything which Allah SWT commanded.
As I remind myself and you again and again, our problem is not that we disbelieve in everything. Our problem is worse than that. Our problem is that we don’t believe in everything. Our problem is that we don’t believe in everything. Our problem is that we selectively obey.
And Allah SWT mentioned that very clearly in the Quran, where He said, أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْدِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْدِ Do you believe in some things of the book? You take some things of the book? You obey some commands? And you leave the rest?
فَمَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا خِذْيٌّ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَرَضُّونَ إِلَىٰ أَشَدِّ أَذَابٍ وَمَنْ اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ Allah SWT said that what is the reward?
فَمَا جَزَاهُ مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكُ What is the jaza? What is the reward? And Allah SWT is using the word reward in a sarcastic way. Whereas where He means punishment. جَزَا سَمَانِ جَزَا نِجَزَا جَزَا كَمَنِ صَزَا هَيَا And Allah says what is the reward for those of you who do this? Accept hardship and suffering and problems and humiliation in this life. خِزْيُنْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا This is the beauty of the Kamal of the Arabic language. One single word. خِزْيُنْ خِزْيُنْ خِزْيُنْ It has every bad thing in it. It has disease, it has accidents, it has problems, it has conflicts, it has suffering, it has poverty. You name it. خِزْيُنْ خِزْيُنْ Hard. Your life will become extremely difficult.
فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا And it doesn’t end with that. وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُوَضُّونَ إِلَىٰ أَشَدِّ أَذَابٍ
And on the Day of Judgment you will be turned towards the worst of punishments.
You might ask this question, at least I am doing something. Somebody else is completely rejecting. He is not even a Muslim. He has not even said, لا إله إلا الله At least I am doing something. At least I am coming to Furaishalatul Fajr. At least I am giving some Zakat. At least I am doing Qurbani in Eidul Adha. And so on. The issue there is not at least. The issue there is the arrogance. Is the Takabbur of the slave.
The Takabbur of somebody who has no Hasyat except what Allah has given him.
What right do you and I have to be arrogant? When Allah SWT reminded us. And Allah said, وَلَا حَلْ أَتَعْ عَلَىٰ الْإِنسَانِ حِينٌ مِّنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْءً مَّذْكُورًا As the human being forgotten the time when he had no mention. There was no mention of him. He was not a thing mentioned.
What right do you have to be arrogant?
On what basis are you arrogant? And we are arrogant. So don’t expect me to say. Ya Allah you may have given me three commands. But I will obey only one. The other two commands I don’t like. I will not do. This is exactly what Iblis did. Exactly. This is exactly what Shaytan did. Shaytan did not deny Allah SWT. Shaytan did not say you are not my Rabbi. You are not my Khalikh. No, no, no. He did not deny Allah SWT. He did not deny making Sajidah to Allah. Allah, he did not say, I will not make sajdah to you. He said, I will not do this command. I will not make sajdah to Adam because in my understanding, this is wrong.
So what is he doing? He is taking his will, his understanding, his whatever and imposing it on Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Yaab meru kaisa bolte? Aapki baad ghalat hai.
Laaha wa laakho ta’ala.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is saying, you do this shaitaniyat in your life, you will be treated like shaitan.
So it’s not a question of saying, kuch toh bhi karna. Itta toh karna, kuch toh bhi karna nahi hai Islam ke andar. Pura karna hai. And Allah made it very clear. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, Ya ayyuha allazeena amanu, udhkhulu fis silmi kafatan wala tattabiyu khutwati shaitan innahu lakum ma’aduhum mubeen. Allah says, O you who believe, enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of shaitan. Truly he is your worst and clear enemy.
Allah gave us an example of the way to obey.
Wa ith qala lahu rabbuhu aslim, qala aslamtu li rabbil alameen. Ibrahim alayhi salam, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, when his Rabb said to him, submit, he said, I have submitted.
He did not say, I have submitted to the extent I understand, I have submitted as much as I can, I have submitted completely.
Our problem is, for Salah, we will come and pray in the Masjid. Give a donation to the Masjid and Madrasa or something, we will do that. But rights of our own family, sisters, especially, rights of inheritance, no. We will eat up their rights.
Tumar ku jahez diya the baba.
O ek haram kaam kare, ab tu kuchar haram kaam kare.
Your father ate one haram thing by giving jahez. Now you are doing another haram thing by eating up her inheritance.

Living in a joint family house and you have a dispute, the only people who make money in disputes are lawyers. Nobody else. The only people who benefit from disputes are attorneys, lawyers. And they will make sure that you keep on fighting as long as you live so that they can keep getting their fees.
Because the truth about every single dispute on the face of the earth, irrespective of who it is between, whether it is a husband and wife dispute, whether it is a sibling dispute, whether it’s a parent and child dispute, whether it’s a dispute between countries, nations, any dispute in the world can only be resolved in one way which is by sitting down and talking to each other. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. To resolve a dispute, you have to sit down and talk to each other.
But the longer you take to come to that point, the bigger loss you will suffer.
So Allah SWT is saying, don’t do this. Allah SWT has set the rules and regulations of our life for our benefit. Don’t die except in a state of Islam. Because when you die in a state of Islam, when you die with La ilaha illallah, Muhammad Rasulullah, then Allah SWT will give us Jannah, inshallah. Allah SWT said very clearly, the one who believes in La ilaha illallah, Muhammad Rasulullah, with Ikhlas, he will enter Jannah.
The Sahaba said, Ya Rasulullah, what is the Ikhlas of La ilaha illallah, Muhammad Rasulullah? He said, the Ikhlas of the Kalima is, it keeps you away from Haram. The Ikhlas of the Kalima is, you will not disobey Allah. But it keeps you away from it. But it keeps you away from it. But it keeps you away from it. But it keeps you away from it. That’s our state. This is our state. Our state is Islam came to be practiced. Islam came to be practiced to make us winners in this world and the next. Right? We are taking this Islam, we are keeping it somewhere, we are polishing it, every day washing it. We don’t use it. So in this world, in this world, we are Zalil.
But all this is because of what? You are not practicing. People are saying this is, believe me, all that is happening to us is because we disobey Allah SWT.
Before the coming of Khatim al-Nabiyyin, Sayyid al-Mursalin, Muhammad Rasulullah SAW, Allah SWT used to send Nabi after Nabi after Nabi. The Nabi, the Anbiya would send Nabi after Nabi. Preach to their people. If the people obeyed, Alhamdulillah. If they did not obey, then after a certain time, Allah SWT would destroy those people. Literally wipe them out. Some calamity, some disease, some sound, explosion, flood, something. Allah would destroy those people and then He would send another Nabi. With the coming of Rasulullah SAW, Allah SWT would send Nabi after Nabi. So after Rasulullah SAW, this silsila of Anbiya has stopped. There are no more Anbiya to come after Rasulullah SAW. There is no more, there is no other Rasul, there is no other Nabi. He is the seal of the Prophets. The silsila of the Prophets has been finished and sealed.
But the work of the Prophets, the work of Amr al-Ma’ruf and Nahi al-Munkar has to continue until Allah SWT ends this world. People have to be there who will enjoy in good and who will forbid evil. This is a need, a necessity. Nobody can stop it. For that Allah SWT made the Ummah of Muhammad SAW, the Muslims, mukallaf on this. Allah gave them the responsibility. So on the one hand, we have the great honour. You have been given the responsibility of the Anbiya. What Anbiya used to do, Prophets used to do, you have been told to do. Okay, that’s the responsibility. good part of it. The bad part of it is, if you don’t do, Allah will not destroy the Summa. Haramdullilah. This is the Dua of the Prophet, Allah said, I will not destroy the Summa. You will not be destroyed. Destroy meaning, completely wiped out, no. But, we have to be brought on track. If there is a pipe through which water is flowing, and it gets blocked, what do you do? You take something else and smash it through, to clear the blockage. That is painful. That is what is happening to us. So, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala is getting the others, our customers, our audience, to remind us. That’s why the audience is coming and saying, How do you say that?
We are crying, they are beating us. Why are they beating us? They are beating us on purpose. If we are doing our work, then they are beating us. Allah is not sending us up, Allah is getting the customers to beat you up. And this will continue, and Merlai HaMarshi Hana, this will increase, until we come back online.
For each one, to his level. If you are the ruler of a country, there is certain responsibility for you. If you are the ruler of your own household, some other responsibility for you. If you have nobody, you are alone, some other responsibility for you. Each one has a different level of responsibility. And that responsibility, we have to fulfill. So, don’t worry about, if we spend a lot of useless, waste of time. See what Mohammed bin Fulan bin Fulan is doing. See what this king is doing. Don’t see any king. Don’t see any king. You look at the king. You look at the king. You look at the king. You look at yourself. Don’t look at anybody else. They are not in your control. Look at yourself. I should look at myself, you should look at yourself. And say, is my life on the path of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam? Is my life going according to the sunnah? In every aspect. This is the whole thing. Allah said, do not die except in that state. Because the time of death is the time of reckoning. Allah is saying, don’t go there unless you are completely obedient. And that’s not in our control. It can happen anytime. Which means, 24 hours, we should be in a state of alertness. Think of it like, supposing, Ferrari or Bugatti or Lamborghini or, you know, whichever, Maserati. Somebody, the chairman of the company writes to you and says, and sends you a t-shirt with the Maserati logo or the Lamborghini logo on it. And he says, wear this t-shirt. And one day, we are going to send a person, one of our representatives, to your house.
And he will knock on your door. And when you open the door, if you are wearing that t-shirt, he will give you the key of a brand new Lamborghini. Right? Top of the class. What will you do?
You will have a shower in that t-shirt. You will sleep in that t-shirt. You will, you will, why? That t-shirt will become like your skin. It will not, you will not take it off. Because you will say, I’m getting a car worth a million dollars for nothing for free, just for wearing the t-shirt. I will wear this t-shirt until the t-shirt falls apart. Yes? What Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has, how do you compare what Allah has to some, you know, some piece of metal, some car. Somebody posted something on LinkedIn. He said, I was in Saudi Arabia. This man is saying, he said, this is the difference between a Muslim and a Muslim. He said, this is the difference between a Muslim and a Muslim. He said, I was in Saudi Arabia. He’s driving a Land Cruiser. He said, I was driving and I hit another car. Some car braked. I hit another car. And he said, then I was very afraid. I don’t know what happened. He said, what happened? He said, people came out from that car. I got out of my car. There’s another car behind me. People came out from that car. He said, are you okay? Are you hurt? Is your family, are they okay? Are the children, everybody hurt? Anybody hurt? Any problem? And one of them says, has a hadith. Al-insan is much more than this. This is metal. This will get repaired. Your life and your safety is much more important. He says, no shouting, no screaming, no yelling, no cursing anybody. People are concerned. Are you okay? Even though he says, it’s my fault. I’m the one who reunited the guy. He didn’t come back and say, you have no eyes, you’re blind. No.
This is what opens the hearts of people. It’s your treatment. It’s your akhlaq. What do you do in a time of stress? And that will not happen unless the whole life is based on that. This won’t come out of the blue. We can’t live a whole life of, you know, oppression and arrogance and then suddenly what happens? We can’t live a whole life of oppression and arrogance and then suddenly what happens? One day you are this farishta, this malak, this angel, no? The whole life has to be like that. So I remind myself with you, let us look at our lives before that knock on the door comes and make sure you’re wearing the t-shirt of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Sibghat Allah, Allah says, the color of Allah. Color of Allah is not green. Please understand that. It’s not a question of color meaning color. Color meaning the color of the obedience of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
Obedience of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. In everything. Not partial obedience. Partial obedience is very, very, very, very dangerous. In everything. You say, alhamdulillah, ya Rabb, I am your slave. I have given up my will, my desire to you. Whatever you want is what I want. In every aspect of my life.
