بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الحمد لله رب العالمين والسلام على شرف الأنبياء والمرسلين وحمد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم تسليما كثيرا.
My brothers and sisters, الحمد لله بإذن الله تعالى. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala blessed us in a way which we cannot truly understand today because we cannot see the ajar of this and we will never see it in this life. But a day will come when we will stand before Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala that day we ask Allahﷻ to make that the best day of our lives and to make it easy for us inshallah. On that day we will see the reward for this, the reward for taking time out and gathering only and only for the pleasure of Allahﷻ not for money, not for profit, not for anything. And that is why in this course we don’t charge you a single cent. Nothing. All the teaching is free. All the course material is free. You only pay for the hotel. Because we don’t want anything from you except your dua. Nothing else. We want to take from Allahﷻ and you take your time out and you come, you spend time here with only one intention which is to please Allahﷻ and to learn how to please Allahﷻ.
Alhamdulillah you saw a demonstration [unclear] and may Allah Ta’ala bless our brother Abdullah with azal and blessing as only Allah can bless. And we ask Allah to make the Quran His Hafiz. And to make the Quran firm in His heart. And to make the Quran a guiding light on His path in life. And on the Day of Judgment, to call him by name in front of his arsh and to command him to recite the Quran as he used to recite it in this life. And then to increase his darajat for every letter, not word, not ayat, for every letter of the Quran, until the end of recitation. And it is my Guman since he is Hafiz that he will recite the entire Quran around. And when he finishes the last harf, that will not be his level. His level will be what I ask Allah to give him as a reward for that in keeping with his majesty and grace.
I’m saying this to you because you have children and you have aspirations for your children. Believe me, Allah is my witness. If you grow your child, if you raise your child to be the greatest scientist, the greatest technologist, the greatest administrator, the King of the world, but he does not know the Quran, it is a complete and total waste of his life. Total waste. I don’t care if your child is a judge in the Supreme Court, I don’t care if your child is the Chief Justice of the International Court of Justice, I don’t care what, if he he cannot recite the Quran, if he does not understand the Quran, if the Quran is not in his heart, if the Quran is not in his life, then that child is not your asset, he is a liability for you. Because you will answer to Allah as to why you raise a child like that where you did not introduce your child to the Quran. You are liable. You did not introduce your child to the Quran.
And on the other hand, if you raise a child who is the world’s greatest technologist and scientist and judge and whatever, whatever. And he also has the Quran al-Kareem. And when he is asked to lead Salah, he can lead Salah like we heard today. Beautiful, mashallah. Starting from the intiqab of the Surahs, Surah Al-Waqihah and Surah Al-Mulk. This shows our understanding of the Quran. Why Surah Al-Waqihah? Why Surah Al-Mulk? We didn’t tell him to do that. He did it himself. If you raise a child who has the dunya and the ulum of the dunya and who also has the Quran Al-Karim in his heart, Then rejoice. Because this child will take you to Jannah. Inshallah. This child will be your ticket for Jannah. Inshallah. So please, the reason we gathered here is so that we can remind ourselves of what is the true, what is the most important thing, the truly important thing.
Imagine that we are on a train journey
and the train journey started of course I won’t go into where it started in the ilm of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and so on I am saying from this world it started when we were born and the train is racing towards our destination
and a day will come and a time will come when the first station will be reached. About which Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومِ. You heard this ayat in surah al-baqarah in tahajjud Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said about that time when that station is reached. Allah said when the breath is caught in the throat, the state of nazah, the ghar gharah. When a person is completely now detached from the world because he is seeing the malaika, he’s seeing those who have come to take him off the train. And Allahﷻ challenges فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ. Allah said at that stage you will be standing and looking on but you cannot help him and Allah says if you are so powerful return the soul give him relief when his breath is stuck in the throat. And then we will get off this train and we will get into another one where the journey is even longer. This journey is 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 100 whatever Allah writes for us in the reckoning of this life. And that journey? Think about this. Think about this.
Sayyidina Usman bin Affan bought a well in Medina. People had some problem with water. There was a well which was owned by a Jewish guy and he was not allowing the Muslims to take water from that well. So Sayyidina Usman bin Affan r.a. he said to him, he went to the Jewish guy and he said, sell me the well. He said he refused. Sayyidina Usman Osman then said to him, okay, let us do a deal. And this man knew that. Osman is a businessman, a very smart businessman. He said, let us do a deal. And the deal is that I will pay you for the well, which will amount to half the amount of the well, whatever the value of the well is. And our people will use this water one day and your people, whatever you want to do with the water for the next day. And the man agreed. And of course the people came and used the water when Sayyidina Osman’s, when it was his day and that was free and the next day they didn’t go there. So this man was not getting any revenue. So finally he sold the well to Sayyidina Osman or Dailana.
I’m talking about the second train journey. Now this happened after some years, Sayyidina Usman passed away, a Shaheed while reading the Quran, while fasting. That well, it went. And then there was a dead garden, dead orchard around it and so on. And years passed. And how many years passed until now? 1400 something, right? The well is still there. The date orchard is still there. And the Saudi government has made that into a trust. And the proceeds of that trust are given in charity. And now it has grown to an extent where it has also hotels and different kinds of works of goods. And all that goes in charity, who gets the reward? Continuous reward from 1400 plus years. The second journey.
So I remind myself and you, let us therefore examine our own [unclear] Niyah. Because we know the hadith of Rasulullah s.a.w. narrated by Sayyidina Umar ibn al-Khattab r.a. He said, Rasulullah s.a.w. said, Inna ma al-amalu bin niyat. Inna ma al-amalu bin niyat. The deed is based on the intention. So let us examine our own intentions. As you are sitting here, examine your own intention, why did you come here? Many times people complain, oh you know I didn’t have a chance, that’s a lie. That is a lie. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gives opportunities to everybody. Even this, I mean, we have done this course in so many countries in the world. Same situation. People People come, you spend your time, you spend your money, and then at tahajjud time, some come, some don’t come. Think about it like this. May Allah give you a long and healthy life. But if you did not pray tahajjud today, if you had prayed tahajjud, let me come at it from another angle. If you had prayed tahajjud today, those who prayed tahajjud, alhamdulillah you got the sabab of praying in jama’ah. You listen to the recitation of the Qur’an, apart from being very beautifully recited, may Allah bless our Qari.
Rasool Allah said, the one who reads the Qur’an, Allah will give him how many Hasanat? 10 Hasanat per letter. And then he further clarified. He said Alif, Laam, Meem is not one letter. He said Alif is one letter. Laam is one letter. Meem is one letter. Now in Tahajjud today Surah Al-Fatiha of course you heard because this is the Rukun of the Quran Rukun of the Salah and then you heard the whole of Surah Al-Waqia And then you heard Surah Al-Fatiha again. And then you heard the whole of Surah Al-Mulk. Okay. Do this exercise. Do this exercise. Count the number of letters. Not words, not ayat, letters. Now you got, because you are listening to the Quran and reading the Quran is equal in reward. Whoever prayed tahajjud, you got the sawab of jamaat plus you got reward of 10 hasanat, 10 rewards per every letter and you can count the number of letters. And now when you go before Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, The one who comes with more hasanat, Allah said, I will give you 10 likewise. So here you got 10, another 10 gets multiplied by another 10 inshaAllah. So the one who came and prayed, he got this much. Alhamdulillah this is safe in his record. Nobody can touch it. And Allah Subh’anaHu Wa Ta-A’la said I will grow it. So Allah will grow it. And if you are to die if I am to die right now this is safe and the one who did not come if he dies then he dies without this I don’t say that he goes to Jahannam no Inshallah may Allah Ta’ala give us all Jannah and forgive us but I am saying don’t tell me that you didn’t get the opportunity you had the opportunity you chose not to use it. You chose not to use it. So if you consider yourself to be smart then show it act like you are smart when there is an opportunity you lose it that’s why I say the reward of the deed on the niya. So ikhlas of the niya, I come here for the purpose of pleasing Allahﷻ. Constantly check that ikhlas.
It’s like you are sitting in the middle of you know, you have money in your pocket and you are going through a very busy place whatever it is, railway station or market or whatnot and you are afraid of pickpockets What do you do? You keep your hand on the wallet, right? You make sure the wallet doesn’t get stolen. And that’s the same thing with the niyyah. The niyyah starts good, inshallah. But along the way, so what must you do? Continuous istighfar. The guard of the niyyah is istighfar. Is to keep seeking forgiveness of Allahﷻ. Ya Allah, it started well. Let shaitan not hijack my near. Somebody came to Sheikh Al-Husaymin RA and he said to him, he said, Ya Sheikh, I have a problem. Problem is that Alhamdulillah, I have learnt Quran, I have learnt Tajweed, I have learnt Qiraat. So my Qiraat is good. So anywhere if there is a gathering or something and if there is time for salah, people push me forward me to lead Salah. So I say, when I’m leading Salah, I, maybe I thought to myself, I will recite 20 Ayats. He said, the moment I start reciting, I mean, say, Ayah 3, Ayah 4, I get a thought to say that you are reciting to please the people. You are reciting to please the people. So, Luthier Ménard asked him, what do you do? He said, I cut short my recitation. I mean, I maybe read one more ayat and I go into Ruku. So, what shall I do? So, the Sheikh said to him, don’t do that. He said, if you decided to recite 20 ayats and you get this waswasa, this whispering of shaitan, he said, this is the waswasa, this is from shaitan wants you to cut short your recitation because thanks to your recitation people behind you they are getting khushu they are getting involved in the salah they love it so shaitan wants to cut that. He said you make istighfar because at the end despite all this it is possible that my niyah may be contaminated we don’t know maybe there is some riyah in this niyah so make istighfar not loudly while you are reciting in your heart make a step ask Allah to forgive and then he said increase the recitation instead of 20 recite 25 instead of 20 recite 30 he said beat Shaitan. Don’t fall into do more. Of course please for the people who do Imamat regularly also remember there are people in this this refers to Nafil Sala this is not for Farsala. So in first salah, don’t start reciting 50 ayat and 80 ayat because there are people behind. Right? So don’t do that. But in nafil salah, there is no problem with that. So the niyyah. Make sure that our niyyah is the niyyat of ikhlas.
I want to close with this. I want to ask Allahﷻ to help us to do that which pleases Him and to save us from that which does not please Him. The important thing, the most important thing, the biggest takeaway from this four days or five days you will be here, is to remember that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gave us an opportunity, maximize it, take the maximum benefit of it. By all means, eat good food, have fun, do whatever you need to do, but you didn’t come here for that. You came here to connect with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. You came here to learn something. You came here to focus yourself. You came here to get a direction for your life going forward. If you live without that, believe me, there is only one person responsible and that is you. Because we will do our best. We will do our best to provide you with the resources, to provide you with the atmosphere, to provide you with all that we need to provide you. If you come here and there is no Imam and there is no Tahajjud, then it’s our fault. But if there is an Imam and if there is Tahajjud happening and you don’t come here, Naanubariyum minku. We are free of you. Right? Please understand this very, very clearly. The atmosphere, the knowledge, the teaching, the salah, the zikr, everything is provided. It’s for you to take it. Just like you go to the buffet, the food is there. You don’t eat, you go hungry, whose fault is it? No one is going to force feed you, that much I’ll tell you. Nobody but nobody is going to force feed you. So make sure that you take the maximum benefit from here.
I ask Allahﷻ Jallajalal to reward especially our Sheikh Hazrat Mawlana Mufti Dr. Muhammad Azam Nadwi Daman Bargatum is here and his son MashaAllah led Salah we ask Allah to bless both father and son. He’s got not only, Manal Azam Sahib has got not only the Imamate of Bajj al-Baqi, but also he’s the head of academics at Al Mahad al-Islami, Al Mahad al-Ali al-Islami in Hyderabad. So he’s got, he’s left that also to come here, to be with us. And again I’m saying the Allah is very openly again he’s not doing it for money nobody pays him anything he doesn’t charge we don’t pay only for the sake of Allah Alhamdulillah so make dua make dua for him that we should benefit from him InshaAllah and he will do the Living Islam class stay in the class listen carefully. The class will be in Urdu and anybody who cannot understand Urdu, there will be simultaneous translation in English or whatever languages you want. People are there to do it. So that will happen. Make sure that you benefit from these classes and these lessons. Right? Alhamdulillah.
