Ibn Abbas (R) narrated that when Rasoolullahﷺ used to awake for Tahajjud he would say:
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ
O Allah! All praise and all thanks are for you,
Allahumma lakal-hamd
أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ
You are the Holder of the Heavens and the Earth, And whatever is in them.
Anta qaiyimus-samawati wal-ardi wa man fihinna
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ
All the praises are for You;
Walakal-hamd
، لَكَ مُلْكُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ
You have the possession of the Heavens and the Earth And whatever is in them.
Laka mulkus-samawati wal-ardi wa man fihinna
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ
All the praises are for You;
Walakal-hamd
أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ
You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth
anta nurus-samawati wal-ard
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ
And all the praises are for You;
Walakal-hamd
أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ،
You are the Truth
an-tal-haq
وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ،
And Your Promise is the Truth,
wa wa’du-kal-haq
وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ،
And to meet You is True,
wa liqa’uka Haq
وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ،
Your Word is the Truth
wa qawluka Haq
وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ،
And Paradise is True
wal-jannatu Haq
وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ،
And Hell is True
wan-naaru Haq
وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ،
And all the Prophets (Peace be upon them) are True
wan-nabiyuna Haq
وَمُحَمَّدٌ صلى الله عليه وسلم حَقٌّ،
And Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is True
Wa Muhammadun, sallal-lahu’alaihi wasallam, Haq
وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ،
And the Day of Resurrection is True.
was-sa’atu Haq
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ،
O Allah ! I surrender (my will) to You;
Allahumma laka aslamtu
وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ،
I believe in You and depend on You.
wabika amantu, wa ‘Alaika tawakkaltu
وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ،
And repent to You,
wa ilaika anabtu
وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ،
And with Your help I argue (with my opponents)
wa bika kha-samtu
وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ،
And I take You as a judge (to judge between us).
wa ilaika hakamtu
فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ،
Please forgive me my previous And future sins;
faghfir li ma qaddamtu wama akh-khartu
وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ،
And whatever I concealed or revealed
wama as-rartu wama ‘a-lantu
أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ،
And You are the One who make (some people) forward And (some) backward.
an-tal-muqaddimu wa an-tal-mu akh-khir
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
There is none to be worshiped but You
laa ilaha ila ant
