The problem with telling lies

  • ‘Ammar bin Yasir (RA) narrates that Rasoolullahﷺ said: “He who is two-faced in this world, will have two tongues of fire on the Day of Resurrection.” (Abu Dawud)
  • Mu‘aadh (RA) asked: “Ya Rasoolullahﷺ ! Command me such a deed that may send me to Jannah.” He replied: “Believe in Allah and speak good words, reward will be written for you; and speak no evil words that will be written against you.” (Tabrani, Majma ‘uz Zawaa-id)
  • Mu‘awiyah ibn Hidah (RA) narrates: I heard Rasoolullahﷺ saying: “Woe to him who says something false just to make people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.” (Tirmidhi)
  • ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (RA) narrates that Rasoolullahﷺ said: “When a man tells a lie, the angels move a mile away from him due to the bad odour of what he came with.” (Tirmidhi)
  • Sufyan ibn Asid Al-Hadrami (RA) narrates: I heard Rasoolullahﷺ saying: “It is great unfaithfulness that you say something to your brother, and he believes you while you are lying.” (Abu Dawud)
