Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim. Wa alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen. Wa salat wa salam wa ala ashrafil anbiya’i wa ala mursaleen. Muhammad rasulullahi salallahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa sahibu sallam tasneefan kathiran kathiran. Let me ask you a question. What is Salah? Anybody? Yes? You remember that? Go on. He’s also a prayerist. No, the hadith is where it separates us from others. Do you remember the hadith? Anybody? No? Okay. Inshallah, you can remember it, inshallah. The hadith is, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, qala rasulullah sallam, wa qa’la alayhi wa sallam. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said that the thing that separates the ahad, the covenant, the promise, the dividing line between them and us, them is other people who are not Muslim and us is Muslim. He said the dividing line, the covenant between them and us is a Salah, the one who has left it has committed disbelief, has left Islam. Salah is the first thing that Allah s.w.t made fard, made compulsory, obligatory on every nabi and on anyone who came, the people of those ambiyan, from Adam sallallahu alaihi wa sallam all the way to Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. For example, Allah s.w.t said to Ibrahim sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, tahir bayti litai fee na wal aaki fee na wal ruqa e sujood. He said purify my house for the people who will make tawaf, for the people who make itikaf, for people who make ruko and sujood. Ruko and sujood are the symbols of what? Salah, right? You make ruko and sujood, right? Maryam alayhi sallahu alaihi wa sallam was told to be with those who make ruko and sujood. Musa alayhi sallam and Allah s.w.t called out to him when he went to get a firebrand from the burning bush. Allah s.w.t called out to him and he said ya Musa, innani ana Allah wa la ilaha illa ana, fa’budini wa aqibi salata li dhikri. Allah said to Musa, I am your Rad, I am Allah and there is no one worthy of worship except me. So establish my dhikr, establish salah for my dhikr. Aqimi salata li dhikri. Allah s.w.t said to Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, Ya ayyuhal muzzammil, qumil layla illa qaleela, nisfahu awin kus min hu qaleela, awzid alayhi warattilil qur’ana tartila. Allah s.w.t said in surat al-buzzammil which is supposed to be one of the first surahs to be revealed after the Quran, the first five ayahs of surat al-alq were revealed. There is a difference of opinion whether it was muzzammil or muddasir which came first, Allah ala. But obviously it’s one of the earliest of the Makkah surahs and this surah is evidence that Allah s.w.t describes salah on the Rasul allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam And Allah s.w.t said to him, Oh who wrapped, oh you who are wrapped in garments, who are sleeping, stand up in salah, qumil layla, stand up for the whole night illa qaleela except for a little bit, nisfahu awin kus min hu qaleela, warattil al qur’ana tartila, and then recite the Quran in a pleasant way. So Nabi s.a.w. used to learn the Quran, Allah is saying now tell me the Quran, when you are learning Quran with Sheikh Abdullah what do you do? What do you memorize? You recite back to him right? So he corrects you. This is Allah s.w.t is the teacher. Your teacher is Abdullah al-Khuldi, hafizullah, the teacher of Muhammad s.w.t is Allah s.w.t himself. So Allah s.w.t is saying repeat, show me what did you learn? Salah is the thing where Allah s.w.t in the hadith where Abu Hurairah radiallahu anhu narrated by him, where he said that Allah s.w.t said, they say any hadith that starts with this, call Allah, what does it mean? What do you call it? You call it hadith? Hadith or what? Anybody knows? No? Okay you will learn inshallah. Hadith of Qudsi, Qudsi okay, hadith of Qudsi is where Allah s.w.t is saying something. Nabi s.a.w said Allah said this. Even the other hadith are things which Allah s.w.t said. That is the hadith also is a revelation. But the other hadith is Allah said to Nabi s.a.w and Nabi s.a.w said in his own words. But hadith of Qudsi is Nabi s.a.w is repeating the words of Allah. So he said Allah s.w.t said I have divided salah prayer between myself and my slave into two halves. And my slave shall have what he asks for. So the first thing Allah s.w.t is saying that in the salah when you make dua and when you recite, Allah will give you what you want. In this hadith Allah s.w.t used the term salah. But the meaning here is specific to surah al-fatiha. Then Allah s.w.t said when my slave says, Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim he says it starts with this which is the first ayat of surah al-fatiha. Which is the first ayat of surah al-fatiha? Which is the first ayat? Yes? Alhamdulillah? No? No? Yes? Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. JizakAllah khair. Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. This is a very very important point. Please understand this. Surah al-fatiha is a rukun. It’s a pillar of the salah. Which means that your salah is invalid if you do not recite surah al-fatiha or if you recite it partially. Now how many ayat the surah al-fatiha have? How many? Anybody? Come and tell me. No problem. How many? Seven. Correct. Seven. What are the seven ayat? Start. What is the first one? Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. Alhamdulillah rabbi al-alameen. Ar-rahman ir rahim. Maliki hum ad-deen. Iyyaka na’budu wa iyyaka nastaghin. Hijna surat al-mustaqeem. Surat allatheena aramta alayhim, ghairi maghdubi alayhim wal ad-dawalin. Right? So seven ayat. Now if you don’t recite all the seven, if you miss out one ayah, the surah al-fatiha is not valid and so your salah is gone. Please understand this is a very very critical matter. People don’t realize this. Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim is wajib. You have to say it in the first ayat of surat al-fatiha. On a side note, how many places in the Quran do you find Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim? As part of revolution. How many? 143. No. See your answer is not wrong, alhamdulillah, because before reciting any surah we say Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. That’s so answer is correct. But actual part of the recitation, yes? Numery, cat, cows. More than we can count, no. Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim appears in the Quran as part of the revelation two times. The first time is beginning of surat al-fatiha, first ayat. Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. The next time it appears in surat al-nabal, when the queen of Sheba bil Qis is telling people about the letter that Sulaiman alayhi salam sent and she says this letter begins with Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. So Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim as a part of the revelation appears two times. But what you said also is correct, which is that before every surah we say Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim and among the Sharafi people who follow Shafi’i Ramdhul alayh, we actually say it aloud even in the salaam when we are reciting, when we come to the beginning of any surah we say Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim. Others also say you can say it alhamdulillah, no problem. So here Allah swt is saying, when my slave he says Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim, when he says alhamdulillah hir rabbi alalameen, all praise and all thanks is due to Allah swt, the Rabb, the Lord of the worlds, Allah swt responds, I want you to listen carefully. When you are saying alhamdulillah hir rabbi alalameen, Allah swt is responding and saying, Hamadani abdi, my slave has praised me. Right? I want you to, when you pray now, I want you to feel this. You are standing before Allah and when you are saying something, Allah is answering you right there ayat by ayat. That’s the reason why Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam always used to recite surah al-fatiha, ayah after ayah after ayah. He did not combine ayat and recite Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim, alhamdulillah hir rabbi alalameen, alrahman hir rahim, aliki yamid deeni yakan abduhu yakan, no, he didn’t do this. He said, Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim, alhamdulillah hir rabbi alalameen, alrahman hir rahim. So there is a laghfa, there is a gap between the ayat. Why? Because he is listening to Allah swt’s response. I want you to do that. When you stand in salah, listen for Allah swt’s response. Allah will not talk to you, you will not hear a voice, Wallah alaam, but give that, feel that, that my Rabb, Allah is responding to me. I’m not just saying something. Allah is listening to me. I’m in the presence of Allah. I’m standing in front of Allah. I’m talking to Allah and Allah is responding to me. Alright? So he said, Bismillah hir rahman hir rahim, alhamdulillah hir rabbi alalameen, all praise and all thanks are due to Allah swt. The Rabb of the alameen of the world, Allah swt says, my slave has praised me. And then the servant says, the slave says, alrahman hir rahim, the most gracious, the most merciful, Allah swt said, my servant, my slave has exalted me, he has praised me. Then when the slave says, when you say, Malik Iyamuddin, the master, the owner, the king of the day of judgment, Allah swt says, my slave has glorified me and my slave has submitted to me. When you say and when we say, you alone we worship, you alone we ask for help, Allah swt says, this is between me, between me and my slave, this is between me and my slave, and my slave will have whatever he asks for. And then Allah swt taught us what to ask for. What is the dua that Allah taught us in the Quran? In Siyyothul Fatiha, what is the dua? We ask for what? Say, say it to me. Say, say it, say it, there is no wrong and right answers. That’s how you learn. What is the dua that we ask Allah in Siyyothul Fatiha? Continue. Forjanna? Yeah, well indirectly, but the specific thing we ask directly. What is it? Yes, add up. Continue. Yes, say it. Guide us to the path, absolutely. So say it loudly. Ehdenas siratul mustaqeemu Allah, guide us to the path of steadfastness, guide us to the straight path. Right? And then which path is this? Siratul ladheena ananta alayhi wa ghayri al-mawdubi alayhi wa al-dawalin, the path of those who you blessed and not the path of those who incurred your anger or the path of those who went astray. And Allah says, this is for My servant, My servant will have what he has asked for. I want you to remember this hadith, the very beautiful hadith, alhamdulillah, and I want you to keep this in mind when you pray that we are speaking and Allah is listening to us real time. Alright? Now people who do this, people who pray like this, and especially those who wake up in the night to pray, because the Prophet was told to wake up in the night. Ya yu’ur muzzammidu qumil layla illa khaleela O you who is wrapped in garments and sleeping, stand up in the night and pray. So those who stand up in the night and pray, especially here this refers specifically to tahajjud and I recommend to all of you, make tahajjud fard in your life. Every day pray at least two rakat of tahajjud. Wake up one hour before the time for fajr starts. Now the time for fajr is about 5.52 or something like that. Wake up at 4.52 or say wake up at 5 o’clock. Right? Make uduh, pray at least two rakat of tahajjud, then read some qur’an and then pray. Salatul Fajr, if you go to the mosque, somebody can take you, Alhamdulillah that’s good. If you can’t go to the mosque, pray at home. But wake up before tahajjud, before the time for salah starts and pray at least two rakat of tahajjud. There is nobody who is too young and too old. Do it. The sooner you get into the habit of praying tahajjud, the stronger you will become. Tahajjud is where we take from Allah. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala in the hadith of Isa Sunab said, Allah descends to the first heaven in a manner which suits His Majesty and Grace. And then Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says, Who is it that needs anything from me? Let him ask. Who is it that needs my protection? Let him ask. I will give him, I will protect him. Can you believe this? Allah is asking directly. And that time if you are sleeping, you are losing that. So wake up, ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Whatever you want in the world, whatever you want in this life, whatever you want in the next life, only Allah can give. Ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Allah told us how to ask, Allah told us when to ask, Allah showed us this. So those who do that, for them Allah said, Allah said that they are those, these people who wake up for tahajjud, may Allah make us all among them. Right? Say Ameen. May Allah make us all among them. About them Allah said, these are the people who wake up, their sides forsake their beds, which means they are lying down, they get up. So Allah said, these are the people who wake up, their sides forsake their beds, which means they are lying down, they get up, and they pray and they stand before Allah, bain al khawfi wa tamma, between the fear of Allah’s punishment and hope for Allah’s reward. bain al khawfi wa tamma, this is the position of the Muslim. We stand before Allah, between fear of Allah’s punishment and hope for Allah’s mercy. And then Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, when they do that, and they spend from what we have given them. How many of you give charity regularly? How many of you? Can I see you show of hands? One, only one person. Two, three, alhamdulillah. Make this into a habit, doesn’t matter ten cents, give charity. Give to somebody who is in need. Right? Whoever it is, doesn’t matter who it is, give charity, make this into a habit, there is no one too young to give charity. Alhamdulillah, Allah has given you enough and more. You all get allowances from your parents, you get money for this, money for that, or even if it’s non-money, do something, do some service for charity. It doesn’t have to be money. Right? You got a sandwich, share the sandwich. Whatever you have, spend in the path of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Get used to it, as the sooner you get used to it, the earlier in your life that you get used to it, the better for you. And this is my advice to parents. Let children give, give it to them, let them go and give. Get them into the habit of giving, not just grabbing everything for themselves. So, give in charity. Allah says those who stand in the night, between fear of Allah’s punishment and hope for Allah’s reward and forgiveness, and who give in charity, Allah says, I have kept for them rewards that if they knew, it would be the coolness of their eyes. Special rewards for such people, people who pray in the night. Right? So, will you try to do that, inshallah? Tonight, inshallah. Make a niya, set your alarm clocks. All of you got phones and stuff, set the alarm clock, get up and pray in the night. This is the best thing that you can do for yourself. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to be pleased with us. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to help us to pray and to make the salah, our connection between Allah and ourselves. Salah is farz, salah is the rokon of Islam. As soon as a person accepts Islam, this person’s salah becomes farz on them. They must learn, they must pray. And alhamdulillah, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has given us this. So, treat salah as the great treasure that it is. Salah is our treasure. Salah is strength. Salah is power. Allah said, is ta’inu bi sabri wa salah. Allah said, seek the help of Allah with sabr and salah. With patience, with perseverance, with hard work and salah. Salah is the symbol of the Muslim. The sajdah is the symbol of the Muslim. So make sure that you never leave salah for whatever reason. There is no excuse for leaving salah. No excuse. Right? Unless you are sick. If you are sick, then there is an excuse. But other than that, no excuse. Make sure that you pray and you pray on time. Don’t delay the salah and so on. Stand up, pray your salah, whatever it is, double wakat. And inshallah, you will get the strength of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. I ask Allah to make… Yes? Do you have a class? Do you have a class? Like you have a class. If it’s a salah which can be prayed after the class, pray after the class. But… A caste? A caste? No problem. You can pray with a caste. You can pray with a caste. Just make… For Udhu, just wet your hand and pass it over the caste. That’s it. No problem. No problem. Right? So, inshallah, specific questions about salah and so on, I’m sure they’ll answer it. So, a good question, maasallah. May Allah bless you. So, make sure that you never ever miss salah. You ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to make you one of the musallin because these are the people who will go into jannah. In Surah al-Nudassir, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala told us this conversation between people who are going into jannah and people who are going into jahannam. The people of jannah, they will ask the people who are going into jahannam, maasalakakum fee saqar. What is it that made you… that put you into the hellfire? They will say, lam nakum minal musallin. We were not among those who prayed. Right? So, people who deliberately leave salah, they are condemning themselves. May Allah forgive them and forgive us and save us from ourselves. If Allah does not forgive them, then they are condemning themselves for the hellfire. So, we don’t want to do that. Right? We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to bless you and be pleased with you and never to be displeased. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to make it easy for you. We ask Allah to open your hearts and open up my heart and open all of our hearts and to fill our hearts with His Nur and Hidayah. And may Allah bless the Prophet and his family and make them be blessed with the mercy of Allah.
