And his janazah was that night. And I was thinking that I will talk today about this meeting with Allah ﷻ.
And I turned on my phone to start this recording, and I found a message from my sister saying one of my aunts passed away and the janazah is today probably at around the hour time.
Reminder after reminder.
We ask Allah to forgive the people who passed away and to fill their qubūr with noor and to save them from the ‘azaab of the qabr and to give them Jannatul Firdaws without rizq. InshaAllah. I remind myself and you that this day is near and this day will come for every one of us
and it can come at any time because each one of us, when we were born, like a package which is manufactured, it has an expiry date stamped on it. At the time of manufacture itself, there is an expiry date. Similarly, our expiry date is also stamped on us, except that we can’t see it. So we don’t know it is there. And because we don’t know it is there, we have been conditioned to live as if it is not there, as if we will live forever. But Allah mentioned,
وَإِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَغْنِمُونَ Allah said, “When the time for… when the ajal comes, when the death comes, it cannot be delayed even by one sa’a, by one unit of time, nor can it be brought forward.” What Allah ﷻ said about those who will die with Iman. We ask Allah to make us among those who die with Iman, inshaAllah.
Allah ﷻ said, Allah ﷻ said,
Allah ﷻ said, وَلَكُمْ مَا تَشْتَهِي أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَكُمْ مَا تَدْعُونَ نُزُلًا مِّنْ غَفُورٍ رَّحِيمٍ
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said, those who say Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is our Rabb, قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا This is the condition. The condition is that you say that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is your Rabb, meaning they bring Iman, they come into Islam – Summa Istiqamu – and then they stay on that with Istiqamat. They stay on that with steadfastness. This is the condition. It’s not… It is not enough only to say, Kalu RabbunAllah.
It is not enough only to say, “Allah is my Rabb.”
Summa Istiqamu. And they stay on that with Istiqamat. What is the meaning of saying, Kalu Rabbuna Allah, Summa Istiqamu?
Istiqamah ala maha.
On what?
On Allah is my Rabb. Eh? Qalu Rabbul Allah, summa istiqamah. Summa istiqamah.
Which means that we live our lives knowing that Allah is my Rabb. If I know that Allah is my Rabb, then I will obey Allah in everything everything that He has commanded. If I know and I accept that Allah is my Rabb, then I will have no fear of anyone or anything in my heart except that of Allah.
My heart will be completely and totally free from fear, totally and completely content. And the only thought in my mind or heart will be, is Allah pleased with me.
This istiqamat is the condition, qalu Rabbuna Allah is the entry into the fold, istiqamat is the proof of being in the fold, thumma istiqam. Stay with firmness in that, then what will happen? Then at the time of death, ta tanazzalu alayhimul malaikah. The malaikah will descend on this person, the angel will descend on this person, the angel will come to this person and they will say, “Allah takhafu wa la tahzanu,” have no fear, have no sadness, fear with respect to the future which is the Akhirah, sadness with respect to the life which you passed, Because Allah has forgiven you and there is no fear for you. La khawf wa la huza wa la tahzanu. Wa abshiru biljannati allathe kuntum du’adun. And we bring for you a mashara, the good news of Jannah which has been written for you. At the time of death, when the person has not died, he is still in the state of naza.
Is still in the state of nada, his soul is still not yet left the body, in the process of leaving the body. At that time itself, the Malaika will come and they will give them and may Allah make us among them and all our near and dear ones, Allah will give them the Bashara of Jannah. The Malaika will give them Bashara of Jannah. And then they will say, We are your friends and we are your awliya and we are your supporters and we are your companions and protectors.
In this dunya, we were that and in the akhira, we will be that. He will come with you, not alone.
He will come with you.
وَلَكُمْ مَا تَشْتَهِي أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَكُمْ مَا تَدْعُونَ
For you is whatever you wished, whatever you desired, this will be yours.
Jannah you wished, you know, Jannah is yours. Whatever ni’mat you wished, Allah will give you. Nuzul ammin ghafoorir raheem, and this good news which we are giving you, this is Nuzul. Nuzul in the Arabic language means something that is, for example, a person comes to you after a long journey and this person is anticipated and you’re looking forward to this person coming with great joy, you’re waiting for them and you have all kinds of plans that when this person comes and we will cook this food and that food which they like and we will have a party and we will have a valima, we will call people and we’ll take them here, take them there. But as soon as the person comes, you will not say, “here is biryani, here is this, here is that.” You say, “have a cool drink, have the sharbat, have this juice,” hmm? So, this juice is not the sum total of what you have planned for them. This is only the beginning. This is the sign that there is much more and much better to come. Come. This is just to take away the tiredness of your journey and so on, so please have a seat. Welcome drink. That is Nuzul. Nuzulam min Ghafoorir Raheem. Min Ghafoorir Raheem. They didn’t say Nuzulam mir Rabbil Alameen. Nuzulam min Ghafoorir Raheem. So the Malaikas saying this, glad tidings of Jannah which we are giving you, this is only the beginning. Allah is only the beginning. Now Allah will give you in keeping with His Majesty and Grace. This is only the beginning too. Shuraad. We ask Allah for this, inshaAllah. But this is for those who, Qalu Rabbuna Allahu Sumbastakam. Those who say Allah is my Rabb and who stay on that with istikamah, with firmness.
That is the whole key. Because in this life, we have got accustomed to living as if there is no death, as if we live forever.
Our whole life is from sensation to sensation, from holiday to holiday, from party to party, from this to this, self indulgence constantly, indulging ourselves all the time. Do what we please, do what pleases us. And if somebody tells you, don’t do this, it’s something which displeases Allah , you don’t care. You do not care.
Huh? You do not care. You just, what we earn, where we spend, how we spend, what we spend on, long list. May Allah have mercy, this is something which is throughout society and it’s not only the wealthy people doing it, each one in this, at least in this city and in this society we live in, everyone is doing it at their level.
Somebody who has more money is spending more money on useless things, on things that are not just useless, they are harmful, things which are morally wrong, things which displease Allah ﷻ. And somebody who has less money is spending less money, but he is not spending less money because he is more obedient to Allah ﷻ. He is spending less money because he has less money. If he had more, he would have spent more. And that is why Rasulullah ﷺ said, there are two who will go to Jannah and two who will go to Jannah. He said, “The one who has, who Allah has given him wealth and so on and so forth, and he spends it in the path of Allah , to try to please Allah , will go to Jannah.”
And the one who does not have this wealth, but who wishes that if he had the wealth, he would have spent it to please Allah, Allah will also give him Jannah. Even though he has, he has no wealth, he didn’t spend, but he has this desire, if Allah had give me, if Allah gives me, I will spend. He will also go to Jannah. And the one who, two who will go to Jahannam, Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said one who has wealth and so on and he spends it to anger Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala he spends it in things which Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala dislikes will go to Jahannam and the one who does not have the wealth but who has this desire, if I had I would have done this, he will also even though he has not done we ask Allah to save us from that so please let us these reminders when people die and we get this news Of course, we make dua for them, that Allah forgives them and gives them Jannah. But these are reminders for us, that one day, we will be the ones gone. And somebody else will be the one giving the news to others. So and so passed away last night, so and so passed away this morning.
So I remind myself and you, let us not wait for that day. Let us take stock of our lives and let us bring our lives back on track. We have been given guidance, we have been given the Kitab of Allah which is the map and the Rasool , the Messenger of Allah , who is the guide, let us follow. Let us follow him and let us try to live our lives in a way which pleases Allah . وصلى الله على نبي الكريم وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين برحمة الله
