We will take from what our Sheikh said just now with regard to what not to do. And therefore in those terms what we should do is to make istighfar on tawa. And the reason I say that is because talking about Lailatul Qadr as we heard on the first day, our mother Sayyidina Ayesha Siddiqa asked Rasulullah A.S.W. She said, Ya Rasulullah, if I find Lailatul Qadr, what should I ask Allah SWT for? What dua should I make? And we all know the dua which Rasulullah A.S.W. taught her. Beautiful dua, very small dua. Allahumma innaka afuun, tohibbul afu, fa’fani. O Allah, You are the one who forgives and You love to forgive, so forgive me. See the beauty of this dua, see the level of humility that the Prophet A.S.W. is teaching us. She is not saying, forgive me because I should be forgiven, forgive me because I am making dua, forgive me because I have repented. No, she says forgive me to please yourself. You are the forgiver, you like to forgive, so do what you like to do. In that process I get forgiven. So let us seek forgiveness. The very first thing that happened when Allah SWT created Adam A.S.W. was the whole conversation which happened. Allah SWT commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam A.S.W. to make sajda to Adam A.S.W. And Iblis was not an angel, he was from the jinn, he was there with them. And he was there with the angels because of the level of his worship of Allah SWT and so on, which raised him in status to the state where even though he was not an angel, he was in the company of angels. But when it came to this haqam, he refused. And the reason he gave, Allah SWT said, why did you refuse to do sajda to the one I created with my hands? And what is the reason he gave? He said, ana khairu minu, khalaqtani min naar, wa khalaqtau min teen. He said, I am superior to him, I am better than him. You made me with fire and you made him with clay. Racial superiority, racial discrimination is the original sin. My race is superior to that race. I am better than him, not because of virtue, not because of accomplishment, not even because of my ibadah. No, racially I am superior. I am created with something which is superior to that one. Innaar illayi wa innaar awadil. And then sometime later, Adam alaihi salam and our mother Hawa alaihi salam also made a mistake. They also committed a sin. And it is the beauty of Islam that Islam does not say that Hawa alaihi salam committed the sin and then she tempted Adam to do it. No, they both committed the sin. They are both equally responsible. She is not responsible for him and he is not responsible for her. The equality between men and women starts from there. And that is the reason why when they make the tawbah istighfar, what do they say? Rabbana zalamna anfusana. Together. Fa illam takhfir lana. Wa tarhamna lanakoonanam ila al-khasireen. Adam alaihi salam does not say, Allah forgive me and my wife. No, he says both of us have committed the mistake. We are both equally guilty. Forgive us both. And if you don’t forgive us and if you don’t have mercy on us, both of us will be losers. So two entities, our mother and father Adam alaihi salam and Hawa alaihi salam and Iblis, both of them, they committed a sin each. The difference was their attitude towards that after that committing of the sin. In the case of Iblis, even though he did whatever he could have said at that time, Yallah, I am very sorry. I did not know. I was, I am sorry. I made a mistake. I should have obeyed you. I did not obey. Please forgive me. He did not say that. He first justified his action. He said, I am right. You are wrong. You are wrong. Your, your hookah is wrong. Your order is wrong. How can you tell me even though I am superior to make sajdah to him who is inferior? So first he justifies himself and by, by inference he is saying Allah is wrong. And on top of that, he says, an tilni ila yam yubatun. Give me time until the last day. And then the rest of it, I will misguide them. I will do this. I will do all that. Whereas in the case of Adam alayhi as-salam, Muhammad alayhi as-salam, immediately as soon as they realize their mistake, Allah forgive us. Allah forgive me. I made a mistake. I am very sorry. Please forgive us. Have mercy on us. And when people do this, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, When people are repentant, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, Oh my slaves, do not lose hope. Oh my slaves who have committed transgressions against themselves. Because when we commit sin, we are not harming Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We are harming ourselves. We are harming ourselves. We are destroying our own lives. We are destroying our own lives in this dhuriya and we are destroying our own life in the akhirah. When we are cruel, when we are unkind, when we are, when we commit some sin, when you drink alcohol or you fornicate or you lie, you cheat, you do all this stuff, who does it harm? Who does it harm? It does not even harm most of us except for some things which also harm the family. Other than that, it does not even harm anybody else. It harms yourself. If I OD on a drug, who am I harming? Myself. And then of course, the punishment in the akhirah. So Allah is saying you have transgressed against yourself, but see the language of the Quran. You know, in our human nature, if we, if somebody disobeys us, if somebody is insulting to us, if somebody is doing something we do not like, we distance them. We distance them. Even parents, if a child does something wrong, the mother will say to the mother, see what your son did. But if you do something nice, see what my son did. Right? Same sir. It does something nice to somebody else sir. But Allah says, Ya ibadii, O my slaves, who? An-nabeen wa siddiqeen. No, no, no, no. Allatheena asrafu wa la anfuseeen. O my slaves, who? Not the prophets and the siddiqun. No. Allah is saying the ones who have committed sin, the ones who have disobeyed, my slaves. Allah is drawing them close. Even though you did not come. To defend, make istighfar, make tawbah. Fas taghfiru summa tubu ilayh. La itaqnatu mir rahmatillah. Do not lose hope in the, and faith and do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah. There is no despair in Islam. No matter what you did, you may have disobeyed Allah. You may have worshipped other than Allah all your life for a hundred years. And one day before you die, or even the day you are going to die, you don’t know that, but the day you are going to die, you make istighfar and tawbah, and then ten minutes later you are dead, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala puts you straight into Jannah. Everything for you. A fellow does not sit on the orders. This guy did all this for a hundred years, and he was a Muslim for five minutes. I mean, you know, I just show you Jannah. After that you go into Jannah. No. God, everything finished. Kalaas. You make istighfar. That is the reason why it is so important. The minute you realize that I am wrong, make istighfar. Do not hesitate even for one second because we don’t know when we will die. We don’t know when, after doing all this, if you know and you still don’t repent, then you are on the path of shaitan. Shaitan knew he was wrong, but he gave me time. No time. When I know I am wrong, immediately be contrite. Immediately repent. Have faith in the mercy of Allah. Innallaha yaghfiru dhunaw wa jami’a Allah said Allah will forgive everything. Innahu huwa al ghafuru rahim. Verily He is the One who is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. Now, tawbah requires two things. Number one is the far which is to repent, to be sincerely and genuinely, you know, regretful of what we have done. And the second one is to turn towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Not do the same thing again. Fashtafiru summa tuvi layi. After that, turn towards Allah. Because if I am doing something wrong, I say, no, no, no, I think this is very wrong. And next day I do the same thing again. That means you are hypocritical, right? You are hypocritical. You are saying you are sorry, but you are doing the same thing again. Why so sorry? So, turn towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Change of life. Whatever the action is, each of us knows what we do. Stop doing it and turn towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. And only Allah knows. In Islam, there is no displaying and mentioning your sins to people. No. It is between you and Allah. Finish that. If the sin was of a kind where you are hurting somebody else, then there is a third condition, which is, make good. So, if there is something between me and Allah, I was worshipping something, someone other than Allah, I stop worshipping. I make istighfar, I am good, Alhamdulillah. Ashadu Billah, Ilaha illallah. Fine. If I was a Muslim, born a Muslim, but I wasn’t praying, I was not fasting and so on, I now realize this is wrong, I start praying, fasting, I am good, Alhamdulillah. No problem. But if I had hurt somebody, I took away somebody’s property, I stole something from someone, I slandered somebody, I did something which hurt other people, then it is not sufficient simply to say, I am sorry. No. We must make good with that person also. Reimburse that person, go make apologies to that person. I am very sorry, I said all this about you. Please forgive me. And then make istighfar to Allah, I have sought forgiveness, please forgive me. Then inshallah, you are fine. If the other person says, I still will not forgive you, that’s okay, you have done your job. But go and genuinely be sorry there. Don’t say, I am saying sorry to you, okay? But accept it, otherwise Allah will be angry with you. No. Don’t make it as another person. First you do, first you oppress him, now for the apology also sounds like another big oppression on top of it. No, don’t do that. Be genuinely humble, right? Genuinely humble. Go and I am extremely sorry. He may be very angry, he might say, I won’t forgive you, I am still very sorry, I beg you to forgive me. I leave it at that. Don’t argue. Then make istighfar to Allah, inshallah, this is good. Right? So I remind myself and you, let us use this time. And alhamdulillah, as Sheikh said, maybe tonight is Lailatul Qadar, may Allah grant us Lailatul Qadar, inshallah. So we ask Allah to grant us Lailatul Qadar. We ask Allah to enable us to make istighfar and taubah and to turn towards Him before it is too late. We ask Allah to open the doors of forgiveness and His mercy for us. We ask Allah to provide us from places where we couldn’t imagine. We ask Allah to fulfill all our needs and then to add to it from His Majesty and Grace and His Generosity. We ask Allah SWT to be pleased with us and never to be displeased. And may Allah bless Nabi Kareem and his family and friends with His mercy and blessings. Thank you. JazakAllah.
